Why England will at least get to the World Cup Final....

Status
Not open for further replies.
Agree with the first sentence but not with the second. I reckon Spain will lose the Final to Brazil, who will have beaten us in the semis to get there.

It's going to be an interesting competition. Bar Spain - who still haven't lost their choker tag despite their winning ways it seems - none of the sides look particularly threatening.

France and Argentina are frankly lucky to even be there. Germany, Italy, Holland and England are all very beatable, whilst Brazil are relatively ordinary by their standards these days (although I think they are actually set up to do quite well).

It's Spain's to lose for the reasons that the poster above me mentioned.

Plus they have the best midfield in the world (Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Alonso) behind the best forward line in the world (Villa & Torres).

I used to begin every tournament wishing England the best. 5 minutes into the first game Motty mentions 1966 and the good will evaporates instantaneously.
Its not our fault we won the fucker Doc.m, it's the same with Gerry Amrstrong In 1982 and Ray Houghton in 1994, those things are remembered as stand out moments for the other nations, it's just the way it is.
Get the boat Herr, the beeb cream on about 66 to a ridiculous level. Always a remark in commentary, always discussed pre & post match during the tournament. They make Sky look icy when it comes to romanticising past achievements.
What would you have them talk about? I think you'll find that when Brazil are on they talk about Pele and Argentina they talk about Maradonna....at least I assume youre talking about the football programmes.
It's British tv mate of course they'll talk about the only time they won it.
Anyway, I can't be bothered arguing about it, it's a ridiculous argument. If you don't want England to win because you don't want to hear about it on the news, fine so be it.
The Irish are so bitter I'm surprised they don't support Everton 😉
Always spoiling for this fight, Spion... sure you don't have a little Irish blood in you, mate? 😉

Nah, mate... Didn't really think so.

This is largely the same squad which failed to qualify for the Euros and now we're "more likely to win it than Spain" - the eventual winners of the tournament, and a nation blessed in talent. The English over-confidence never ceases to amaze.

This is an England team which believes it's own hype, is rife with scandals, contains players who crave the media circus, and is full of egotistical, arrogant cunts. Their only hope is Capello manages to negate all these factors and somehow bring them together and makes England competitive against the bigger nations - but, despite his obvious qualities as a manager, this will remain a huge challenge for him. Being swept aside with ease by France and Spain in the last year is a case in point.

England do have a chance because they have some decent match winners on the pitch and a decent enough defence, also the other teams aren't as strong as they could be. But that's all it is, a chance, and a very slim one at that.

I'm not bitter, Spoin. I'd like to see England win it for Gerrard & Johnson, I'd also like to see Spain win it for Torres, Reina & Reira. It'd be great to have some WC winners at the club.

Herr, I'm not arguing mate. Of course they are going to highlight the fact they have won the world cup. They're proud of it and why shouldn't they be? It is an incredible acheivement. The main problem I have is the amount of times it get mentioned. I was watching England play a friendly match a couple of years back and it was as meaningless as they come really. The commentator spoke about the spirit of 66 three or four times in the first half alone. Too much. It isn't an isolated incident either.
Mate it was a joke! Hence the smiley...

But as annoying as 66 is (and the constant mention of it annoys us too you know!) its equally annoying as commentators banging on about the "luck of the Irish" or whatever other stereotype applies to the nation concerned - eg Braveheart and Scotland.

You just don't hear it because you're all too busy tripping over yourselves to bash England 😉 I'm sure when we underachieve again this year, the Irish and other celts will be leading the way in telling us where we went wrong, whilst enjoying every second of our underachievement. That's your perogative of course..

Good point, that 'luck of the Irish' thing is a pisser. It really grinds my gears.
Should England make a balls of things this summer I'm sure there will be plenty of good natured banter, but none of the Irish lads on here are going to take the piss too much. It's those Welsh lads you wanna watch out for!
