Disregarding prejudices and nationalistic tendencies who should the 2018 & 2022 World Cups be awarded to ?

Should it be a 'reward' for services to the game. To an area to help develop the game in that region ? To a region that hasn't had it before ? To a country that says it will be a financial success ? What should the winning countries' have presented that should win them the tournament (regardless of which countries FIFA might actually choose, or what alliances have been forged, or bribes made) ?

2018
England
Spain & Portugal
Russia
Belgium & Netherlands

2022
Russia
Australia
Japan
Qatar
South Korea
USA

England in 2018 and Russia in 2022.

England because it's England, Russia because the games will be on at relatively convenient times.

I don't like traveling to Russia so that counts them out. In 2018 all the others would be fine as I don't mind the joint bids but England probably deserve it the most.

In 2022 Australia looks like the most fun choice.

i'd prefer the USA to australia, as the time difference is much more palatable.

surely the qatar bid's something of a bad joke, as well? how are they planning to get around the heat problems? they'd have to play all the games in the evening.

Yeah for TV-purposes USA would be better. I do however like countries that have never had it before to get it as often as possible. Also Australia would be a better travel destination.

first and foremost i like countries to get it who really apreciate the honour, so european, south american and asian nations have first dibs there.

is football really a big enough deal for the people of autralia and USA that they should deprive devoted english or spanish fans from having it?

doubtful imo. mind you, i suppose wtf does that matter to FIFA when there are lucrative new markets to open up to the joys of the beautiful game?

It can't be Russia in 2022, as it has to switch continents. They haven't had any tournaments recently, so I think they should get it in 2018.

Japan, South Korea and the US have had it recently enough, so that leaves Qatar and Australia. So Australia for 2022.

Hahaha. Good luck with that.

I say Belgium and Netherlands. Great beer and cake.

Yeah I think I agree with this although I'm not sure about Asia.

Nowadays I almost prefer Euros as the atmosphere is much more football related. World Cups just have the general carnival feeling with stupid looking hats, face paintings, Vuvuzelas and all that shit. Especially when they are outside Europe and the regular football fan maybe can't afford to travel.

I thought it was all done and dusted and it was going to Spain??

I suppose being English i cant really say im not being nationalistic about it but i really would love it if England got it, and i do sort of think it would be justified, it is the national sport and massively popular there, i suppose that means its financially important as well...

and it will have been 54 years of waiting if we get it in 2018 or they reckon at the earliest 2030 after that!!

the press hasnt helped has it though by pointing out alledged corruption... Sepp blatter and FIFA corrupt?? who would have thought such a thing... mind you i would rather a free press than a footy tournament so...

Im not hopeful of it being awarded to us and if we dont get it we should learn our lesson and become as corrupt as we need to be to ensure that we do get it in future, if it means some ol geezer gets a few quid then so be it.

England for me.

Best ground atmosphere, always superb pitches and great overall capacity.

Anfield Road, Old Trafford, St. James Park, Emirates, Wimbledon, Cardiff, Villa Park etc. etc.

Ok for me :
2018 - England (and not for nationalistic reasons) !
2022 - Russia - If they are in both then of course that means FIFA rules permit them to win it in 2022, they can always pass themselves off as Asians since most of the country is in Asia !

They've withdrawn from 2022.

No it wouldn't.

Remember the Sydney olympics? Fantastic! Australia would put on a great world cup. I have a feeling it will go to Quatar though.

England and Russia obviously.

Oh, and I don't think they rotate it through the continents anymore.
They don't but if it's in one federation, it can't be in the same again for 12 years. Or that's what I read anyway...

Hmm, so assuming one of those two get 2018, and considering there's no Argies or Mexico in the running for 2022, it's certain to go somewhere silly.

Also, how come Russia has bid for both tournaments but we haven't?

I dont like dual countries holding it. If it was a choice between England or JUST Spain id probably pick Spain. But i'll go with England. Great stadiums and generally passionate, knowledgable fans.

Russia in 2022.

Japan had it in 2002 they can get fucked.

2014 Brazil
2010 South Africa
2006 Germany
2002 Japan / S. Korea
1998 France
1994 US
1990 Italy
1986 Mexico
1982 Spain
1978 Argentina
1974 Germany
1970 Mexico
1966 England
1962 Chile
1958 Sweden
1954 Switzerland
1950 Brazil
1938 France
1934 Italy
1930 Uruguay

See this is the annoying thing.

Jerome Valcke, the Fifa general secretary, has admitted that he is alarmed at how little work has been carried out in the 30 months since Brazil was unanimously chosen to hold the competition. It is thought the game's governing body is keen to avoid a repeat of the concerns over South Africa's infrastructure.

"It is amazing that Brazil is already very late," said Valcke. "I got a report on the status of the Brazilian stadiums and I have to say it is not very nice. The stadiums are the basic points we need to have a World Cup and in Brazil, for the time being, most of the deadlines are already over and we have to work on new deadlines.

"They are proving how difficult it is to hold a World Cup in Brazil, just as it was in South Africa. The red light has been switched on. Brazil is not on the right path. This year there is a presidential election, so almost nothing will happen. Next year, carnival comes along. So is everything going to start only after carnival?

Fifa (yes yes i know they are money grabbing duplicitious wankers etc) will vote for any old fucking country to get the cup wether or not they have the RIGHT to. By right i mean the ability i suppose.
In the middle of a global economic downturn in which Brazil may or may not be able to eventually pull it out of the fire (and the Ukraine in 2012 for that matter) here we are with stadiums ready, massive fanbase etc and we have to go cap in hand and compete with countries combining or some tinpot nation who just want a crack at it.

South Africa was shite, empty stadiums with no fucking atmosphere but for the Vuvuzela.

So yeah. England - We are already ready. and the then Russia - They can afford it properly.

Really ? Wikipedia says they have. The BBC (this evening) said they haven't.

Qatar World Cup 2022 - Official Trailer [HD]
It will be a fucking JOKE if Qatar get the world cup.

Ive said it before and i'll say it again.
England.
Italy.
Spain.
France.
Germany.
Brazil.
Mexico.
Argentina.
Portugal.

ROTATE.
Whichever is in the best shape at any given time should have it.

Qatar aren't Dubai ... they would have the money and throw shitloads of it at the WC. Good l& relatively easy ocation to get to for virtually everyone. Wonder how they would handle the alcohol and whoring though !
Qatar. FUCK Qatar.
Whatever next, the cricket world cup in that willow wielding hotbed of Poland.

I disagree Oncy, not sure about Qatar but I don't think that football should only be played in the countries where it is historically strong or the dominant sport. I like the idea of it being in countries that have never had a tournament before. I don't think an Arab country has hosted a major football tournament before so what's the big deal?
