Who should replace Firmino?

If the owners didn’t want to invest money last year for fear of revenues dropping - they’re hardly going to change their mind this year and fund a Harry Kane or Haaland after getting the word out that revenues have dropped £120m and likely to be more this year.

As mischief as I’d like them to dip into their own funds - but they aren’t.

We’ll have a smallish net spend, yet again, and that’ll be that.

But we are getting £200 million for Mané, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Origi.

Mané will go for a world record of £200 million.

I had a boss donner last night. And a few Sierra Nevada IPAs. Soz.

I have some Sierra Nevada Dankful IPA in my beer fridge.

Allowed myself some beer at the weekend- had some cracking Pale & IPA from a craft brewery in Sydney called Batch Brewing - the Pale was very much in the Sierra Nevada spectrum.

Can Firmino be pulled back into midfield to replace Gini? I'm not so sure I want to sell him yet without giving the opportunity to rediscover magic....he is a cracking footballer.

We can then find another option for front three.

I'm trying to figure out the downsides to moving him back. Covers tons of ground? Check. Holds the ball well? Check. Great in tight spaces? Check (although probably not quite as good as Gini). Creative? Check. Doesn't rely on speed? Check. Shiny teeth distract opponents? Check.

not sure if I've ever seen him hit a pass longer than 20 yards, or if he can learn to take fewer risks closer to his own goal. But otherwise, seems like a decent idea.

The primary reason for wanting to replace Firmino is the decline in his influence on the game.

That's not a particularly encouraging backdrop for moving a player into midfield.

Kane was one of the most creative players this season. He is the perfect choice. And he'll be at Utd or City next season.
You’re about to be proved correct. Just told Tottenham he wants to leave.
They are fucked.

Maybe. But look at what kind of influence is required in the Gini-role compared to the false 9 whatever he plays now. If it allows a more skilled player who knows our system and players to stay and puts a better scorer up front it's worth a try. Especially since we're going to spend no money. Again.

Pretty sure there is a long history of attacking players moving further back the older they get.

Losing the ball way too much to ever be a CM - check

Yes I’m pretty sure I addressed that. He’s have to learn to take fewer risks but that’s part of playing primarily further from goal.

Not that simple to learn. He’d be Garcia but even worse. Never going to happen and his work rate has dropped off massively this year anyway.

Sorry but that clearly isn't true. He's missed a ton of chances but slacked off? Not a chance, he's still our most hard-working forward and that includes Jota.

I saw stats earlier this year on his pressing that was miles off previous years. Would be good to see the latest figures but fuck knows where I saw it. Might have been MNF

Fun Bobby, who slots the chances. Remember him? Well he's still there waiting to come back out.

He will return and replace wasteful Bobby.

Absolutely shite Bobby has already been told to fuck off by playing well but still too profligate Bobby, so we've seen previous for this kind of replacement.

Equally, can't believe he's turned so shit Sadio, will soon be a distant memory, with "Sadio" replacing him also.

Along with VVD and the rest of our central defence returning, it will see the return of big ears and the EPL trophies...

Seeing as he all but succeeded Suarez it'll have to be someone else with a dodgy hair style, an eclectic collection of neck tatoos, and an absolutely massive set of nashers. 😀😀😀

I can't find those stats either.

Some interesting stats :

In 209 games for us in the PL alone he's scored 65 goals and had 41 assists : that's pretty much a 0.5 goal involvement per match (not counting secondary assists).

In 19/20 he covered 302 kms, the 5th highest in the PL. I can only assume though this was because Millie didn't play as many games as he has one of the highest in the PL per game.

The stand out for me was his pressing and sprints which nose dived.
