Which Liverpool players would make the Spanish team?

why does it bother all of you that I think that:

1) The system of football that they (Spain) play is based on a core of Barcalona players which is one of the reasons they have been very successful

2) The fact that I think and have doubts that many of their star players from Barcalona could not fit into other teams because their movement and how they demonstrate their abilities is primarily influenced by the system they play. Also it seems to have passed most of your minds that the major European nations who are expected to win and challenge Spain are going through some sort of transition or are a work in progress where as Spain is fully established as a side.

3) The fact that I highly rate the players I have listed from our LFC team ? - I am pleased with Stewart Downing - and I don't blame him for any of our failings this season - the bad buys for us have been Adam, and Henderson and the fact that Carol has taken a long time to show that maybe he can fit in.

The season that we have just gone through has not been a bad one in terms of the football we played, even our new manager has said we were unlucky on many occasions. - have you all forgotten the numerous chances we created and missed this season ? this is despite the fact that we have had SG out for much of the season (and the fact that he is not the player of 2 seasons ago anymore and never will be again), and Lucas being out too. It's no surpise to me that Rogers has said that there is very little he can do to add to the side - I personally think he only needs another two players - one for up front as Carrol is still an uncertain quantity, and one for the midfield as both Adam and Henderson are not quality or consistent enough. The reason he has said 3-4 is probably becuase he is aware of SG not going to play all games, and uncertainty surrounding Lucas when he gets back into the team.

We are not such a bad team if you think about it - as we showed we can beat the top three on any given day wether it be league or cup competitions. So before you decide to ban me from this thread for believing in the good qualties of our team maybe you need to look at the big picture with Spain and not get overwhelmed with their latest success.

I think the "we didn't have SG for a lot of the season" isn't going to wash for much longer. He's past his best now.

As for point 3 Moran made, I can see where he's coming from. Downing has improved somewhat since the start of the season, only to be let down by incompetence from others. I still think he'll come good for us. However putting him on par with the likes of Alonso and Iniesta is ridiculous.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of our players do quite well in that Spain team. It would help to be surrounded by the kind of quality players Spain have.

I think, given the right setting Gerrard can do the Alonso role a lot better than Alonso. He has all the ingredients and then some more to do well in that role. He would do the Xavi role differently, but it could work out just as potent. In his peak Gerrard had the ability to play for any team. Anyone who says otherwise is selling our Captain short and forgetting a few things.

Both for England and Liverpool, he has never been in that kind of a setup. The only time where we were as a team quite strong was under Rafa....and Gerrard proved how pivotal he was in that midfield, and how devastating he could be. You only need to see why he got a standing ovation from the Madrid fans at Bernabeu.

Why not ? - granted Alonso has an eye for a pass if you give him time and space but he is also very slow and the PL exhausted him when the opposition players started to realise he is only good when he has time on the ball. As for Iniesta - good player but bought up on a system to get the best out of him. All I am trying to say is that there are players in that Spanish team who are good because they have other players around them who know how to play in the same way as they do. How many times have different clubs bought different players for millions because they think he is excellent BUT they cannot get the best out of him becasue they don't play to a way that suits that player ? - remember Mendieta, Veron , and lately Torres at Chelsea ? Downing when he has played for England has never let them down, he played well for Borough, Villa, and has shown he can deliver for us (I know your all laughing - but really I don't give a f*ck, as most people on here would prefer to have Carlos who will give us a great season and piss of to Madrid when a better offer comes in). I don't know if Iniesta can play in a team that does not have clones of Xavi/Messi and before that he had Ronaldhinio ( not exactly your average set of footballers are they ?).

There was an article in a London newspaper where a Journo said that he would not swap any of the England players for the Italians. He was right because in my view England has got a lot of good players who in the right system and setup could do very well and beat most of the top teams, if they were allowed to pass the ball to each other a lot more frequently.

As for Liverpool don't tell me that Arbeola is better than Gen Jo, or that Spain would not like to have a player like Suarez. If you guys for one minute take out the issues you have a bout Downing, then for sure the following players would definitely be considered by Spain if they had them:

Suarez
SG
Glen Jo
Agger

Yes they would - and they already have Reina as a backup goalkeeper. I am rather surprised that Jose Enrique did not make the Spanish squad - we all at some point last season heaped praise on him.

Remember Del Bosque only brought like 6 defenders with him to the Euro's.

Please provide examples of this?

He did well in the league cup final - I think he got MOTM and also scored a ruthless penalty, and we all know he did well England. He has peformed well in various games. But I really think you will ALL be proven wrong this coming season coz I think Brendan will get the best out of him.

But Moron please, we were shit in that final, utter utter shit.
Getting the MOM award in a shitty final against shitty opponents doesn't impress me.

We're going off the point here. Also, I'm not the one who thinks he'd be good enough for the Spanish team. Far from it, in fact.

But I still maintain he has improved somewhat. He looks a bit more decisive, and he's whipping in some great crosses.

I thought Ramos was one of the best CBs of the tournament. Couldnt see either of ours shifting him.
Agree with regards to Ramos. Very strong Euros for him.

Agger and Pique are very similar types mind and it probably wouldn't make them weaker overall if you made that swap.

Modo, if you mention Charlie Adam one more time (that I witness) I'm going to fuck you off, ie, put you on ignore.

I realise this may not matter to you, but I'm just letting you know.

I try not to but technically, I didn't. I just highlighted it.

'Cause I laughed but since you questioned the "like", no more like for you.

Modo - you and I have had our issues, but, we got past them, and you had moved on.

However, of late, you've (for some reason best known to yourself) decided to play the position of "SCM Pain In The Arse".

Dude, it's really, REALLY not funny/interesting/not fucking doing you any fucking favours what so EVER.

I am asking you to stop.

Please.

I laughed 'cause you were right and I want to be on good terms with you, so I'll only slag him off when it's relevant to the topic.

Whoopy doo, one good game against a Championship side is hardly anything to write home about.

Throughout the course of the season, he massively underperformed and there's no getting away from it. Performed well in various games? As if.

Modo's not even in the Top 10 of that list.

Unfortunately you rated Aqua as World Class after his display against Malaysia 2nd team.

*this does not mean I rate Downing*

You know jacksh*t.
I've rated Aquilani since the first time he played for us. That game didn't make any difference to me.
