shawarma:

any of the middle eastern dishes from the yemenites, or kurds, or iraqi traditions (like kube, jachnoon etc) is delicious

Sharwama, beautiful mate. originally from lebanon,(or so a lebanese girl tells me)

i'm not so sure as it may be an 'imitation' of the gyro (greek) ...

wiki says:
Shawarma (Arabic: شاورما, Hebrew: שווארמה, also spelt Chawarma, Shwarma, Shawerma, Shoarma or Shaorma) is a Middle Eastern-style sandwich usually composed of shaved lamb, goat, chicken, turkey, beef, or a mixture of meats. Shawarma is a popular dish across the Middle East, and is consumed by many across the rest of the world as well. Shawarma is known as guss in Iraq; it is related to the famous gyros of Greece.

The name Shawarma comes from the Turkish word Çevirme (IPA: [tʃevir'me]), meaning Turning, and has its origins in Anatolia. It is essentially the same dish as döner kebab in Turkey (for which it is another name - turning roast), possibly differing from it in the type of meat and spices used. The composition of the salad can be quite different as well.

check out how many countries eat it too:

If you're going for Japanese cuisine, go for the good stuff.

Japan2006OsakaBlowfish.JPG

Blowfish Sashimi and Horse Sashimi. Yum.

sashimiDinner.jpg

Live Sashimi. The little fella's dead but still moving because his mortality ended just a couple of seconds ago. Talk about fresh. Here's a clip.

shirauo_01.jpg

White bait sashimi (I don't know the correct term for this, but the literal translation is dancing fish, simply because the fish are still alive). Mix live whitebait in egg and just eat it straight. Can't get fresher than this!

I wanted to add live octopus to the list, but that's more Korean than anything.

man - to each his own furyoo, but that is nasty ...
So says a couple of my friends too. But coming from a culture which doesn't bat an eyelid when live prawns are dunked in alcohol before being boiled alive, this is just a little bit more extreme.

I don't much like my food to be alive when I'm eating it; I'm OK with Japanese food, but I can't say that I particularly like it.

And I hate wasabi. 😀

fury
since you are into the genuine jap stuff, no jap version of mcDs, how about Kobe beef? reputed to be the most expensive cut in the world!
