I'm still waiting for our resident genius to explain the following:

Why was it a waste of money to extend the contracts of Agger, Torres and SG?

If Rafa didn't waste his money buying and extending contracts of lots of injury prone players,
Which injury prone players contracts did he extend then?
Agger, Gerrard and Torres. Obv.
You're being a div.

For a start:

Glen Johnson
Alberto Aqualani
Fabio Aurelio
Daniel Agger

Then naturally you've got Torres and Gerrard, but I don't mind them.

We've paid Aqualani and Agger about 2m in wages since the summer and have fuck all to show for it.
I wasnt being a div, i was agreeing with you. Rafa was insinuating you were wrong, i was saying you werent.

If Rafa didn't waste his money buying and extending contracts of lots of injury prone players.
Thats a bonkers statement.
Why ?

I think it's a bit rich to sign players with long previous injury records and then blame the fact on them being unavailable for ages on bad luck.

Players don't become less injury prone over time.
Firstly he didnt know that the money for contract extensions was to come out of his transfer kitty, so when he signed Aquilani he wasnt thinking that was it for transfers. Secondly he extended the contracts of Torres, Gerrard, Agger and Benayoun. What would you suggest? Let them run out their contracts.
That's one of the stupidest things that gets repeated on here.

If you increase the costs of running the club on a yearly basis of course you'll have less to spend.
I dont remember any reports that the money saved from Hyppia, Pennant, Alonso, Arbeloa, Leto etc's wages was being added to the budget Ross.
Rafa got fucking screwed this summer and you know it.
Not one person on here can argue with it.
He was told he'd have 20m plus the Keane money plus sales to strengthen and that wasnt the case.
We can argue about wages and capex all fucking day but the bottom line is he wasnt given the funds he was told he would get. And thats a fact.
How do you know what he was or wasn't told ?

He's unable to spend money well, that much is clear so even another 15m wouldn't have gotten us out of this shit.
Do I have to spell it out for you ?

If a player can't play you get no value for what you're paying them. Given a limited budget the key to success is getting the most out of the money we've got. So paying 2m for Agger to play three games in four months is not clever.

I'm not arsed about Gerrard and Torres.

I bet Degen's wages are a fair whack even if we did get him on a free. I'd say those wages have been pretty much frittered away as have the millions spent on 'young starlets' who get shipped out as fast as we get them in. Granted we may recover a fair whack when we do sell them on.

2m signing on fee, 2m a year.

10m in total.

For someone who is apparently financially shackled , he doesn't half waste a lot of money chaps. Yes he's bought some really good players but he's also bought dross and the negatives are outweighing the good at the moment I'd say.

It's not particularly clever to let a £12-£15mil rated player go for next to nothing, due to his contract running down either.

Nearly everyone on here was shouting for us to sign him up last season, when he was being linked to AC Milan.

Wise up Ross.
He signed Aquilani on the 7th August under the illusion he would be out for 6 weeks, how can you blame him that 12 weeks later he hasnt played?
Im just struggling to grasp how you think Rafas actions this summer are a reason to hang him.
Last summer maybe, but this? Na.

Except me.

I thought we should have sold him, he's an excellent player but he's not available for half of our games every season.

We've committed a lot of money to him, and it's not clever to make a commitment like that to a player who is only available for about half our games each season.

Rosco on the news that Agger has rejected a new 4 year contract:

It's a major fuck up to let him run down his contract like this".

As I said elsewhere it's an accumulation of bad decisions more so than just this summer.

I don't want him sacked because of this summer, I want him sacked because of his mistakes over the past three years.

Your first line is curious Oncy, yes we'd be better off with Cana (who was cheaper than Lucas), Bent (who was around same price as Babel) and Upson instead of The Greek. So yes we would be better off if Rafa didn't waste money on shite players.

I don't believe any of the shit that seemes to come out of the Rafa camp about Keane, wage bills, Paco's treachery, promised money and so on.

I just don't.

Maybe that's the problem.

Anyway trophies don't really matter, it's the value of the club that's the real measure of a successful manager.

According to Rafa.

You claimed last season that Rafa fucked up by letting Agger run down his contract and hence running the risk of losing him for next to nothing. You're now claiming that he fucked up and wasted money by getting him sign a new one.

I don't believe much that comes out of the Rafa camp either, because everything seems to be an excuse.

Last week Rafa admitted he made a mistake in signing Keane, he didn't mention Parry.

On reflection Rafa4PM my previous comments about Rafa dropping the ball were incorrect. Apologies.

We now know Rafa had engineered that situation to put pressure on Parry which led to him being forced out.

Don't be silly Rosco, Parry signed Keane. Rafa knew nothing about it unil he read it the paper. Actually Parry has signed all our poor players and Rafa has signed all the good ones.

Parry's last act at the club was to personally conduct Aqualani's medical.
