What constitutes a legend?

Is it the goals? The trophies? The performance? Or is it all about the numbers?

For me there are 2 kinds; head legends and heart legends.

Your Head legends are the obvious candidates, the ones who did it all and the ones who are universally recognised. Rush, Gerrard, Kenny etc, all obviously legends without a shadow of a doubt.

Heart legends are a lot more subjective. For me, garcia is without a question, as is Vlad, Biscan and Co because they gave us a high we haven't felt in years. That team I won't forget. Even fucking josemi I won't forget.

Other people mention the likes of kuyt.... Well... Yeah, great player for us and on his day was magnificent... But he doesn't make me smile just thinking of him, because he didn't give me a high like Lil Luis. I can understand why he would be a legend for some just not for me.

So, who are your heart legends? Who made you feel like a kid again?

The greatest are the ones that combine head and heart, such as Kenny, Emlyn, Robbie, etc. As for heart legends, I'd include Joey Jones, Davey Fairclough, Paddy Berger, Kuyt and Vlad.

Some people can be here for ages and are just bit part players but then you'll have Gary Mc who'll just turn up and sort that shit out and go down as one.

Hard to define innit. Either as a long time crucial element of the first team or someone who came in and made a major difference.

Coutinho is a heart legend for me. Sign him the fuck up.

On a serious note, I'd give Alonso the vote. He changed our style completely when he was on song. Not since Molby (another legend) did we have someone that could ping the ball around and control the tempo of the game the way Alonso did. And of course he played a huge part in our CL triumph.

I think your confusing cult heros with legends. Legends need no explanation, Igor Biscan requires some serious fucking explanation

This. Smicer, Biscan, Kuyt - cult heroes for me. Legend status is reserved for others.

Someone whos done positive things for the club of great note that will be talked about for years to come?

Alonso might be a difficult one to define for some. Definite legend for me though. One of my favourite players to play for us.

A legend is basically someone whose actions and personality inspire others to talk about him or her long after they're done, so there's no real need for all of these distinctions.

Exactly what i was saying yesterday. The fact that Biscan is being classed as a 'legend' is just fucking nonsense.

I think a legend only goes to those who bring us our happiest memories
Vladimir brought me some of my happiest memories

Ergo legend

As I said, it's subjective. Cult heroes I'd class as players who didn't have the trophies to back up their hero status

Biscan was fucking hopeless on the whole. The only reason he seemed to achieve some kid of cult status was that he had a few decent games where he proved that he was at least capable of playing football.

Though if some consider him a legend then fair enough. I would certainly consider Carragher to be a club legend. I suspect at least one person here would not agree.

And because of his cock.

We are the most winning club in the country, holding 18 championships. And this bunch of people are legends? I dont agree. Vlad, paddy, gary Mac, etc is all fine people. But club legends they will never be.

I dont even think Michael Owen godes down as a club legend.

Legends are built by something very special. You cannot pick out the one single meritt you build a legend status on, but you know it when you see it.

Some bloke on Twitter voted for Dudek in his best 10 players ever.

I mean fucking hell he's not even close to being our best keeper ever. Proof that one persons legend is complete and utter cunt.

I'm guessing the towel incident has something to do with Biscans cult status aswell

My two cult heroes are:

Alan Kennedy

Steve Heighway

Not sure why with the latter but I loved him when I was a kid.

Something that I never quite get about Alan Kennedy. He often gets mentioned in this kind of way, and when people are talking about our best 11 etc he doesn't tend to get mentioned much, but this is guy who played loads of games for us at the time when we were pretty much at our best, and he essentially scored the winner in two European Cup finals!

So why is he just considered a cult hero?

And two goals in League Cup finals.

The goal in Paris v Madrid is one of my fave goals ever.
