Whatever. He's playing out of position and is feeding on scraps, for the chance he had the ball bounced up infront of him. As for Downing, why's he mentioned? Because it's customary? There's been worse players out there than him, Allen and Gerrard have been woeful defensively, and for all of Johnson's attacking brilliance, funny that practically every attack has come down his side while Downing (who isn't a defender) hasn't had alot to deal with.
Cole and Sterling have been piss poor at keeping possession and Allen has just lost every battle thrown at him. Poor decision to throw Cole into a game where we were desperately needing to get a foothold.
Lady Luck doesn't stand a chance when Sir Balls and Lord Brains aren't around.

long term we're really going to need more steel and bottle in this team . too often this season they've shown themselves to be a big bag of fannies.

We started very well, then West Ham really turned up their pressing game, and they are just physically overmatching us. We were beating them with our passing tempo, and they've successfully knocked us out of that game. They are a very difficult side for us the way that they are playing, and they deserve what they've had so far.
It was always going to be difficult without Suarez, but I don't think Rogers has figured out the best way around it.
It'll be interesting to see whether we can adjust a bit and gain a bit of control over the game again in the second half, but I don't see us getting a result from behind given our lack of goal scoring.

look , we've been pants for the most part of this season and beyond , our one truly good player is suspended , so this half time score shouldn't really be too much of a surprise . What is driving me mad though is we look completely surprised that West Ham are playing this way , like we never expected it at all .

He may aswell drop him into the midfield and try someone else up there, at least Gerrard has a first touch, he's useless at trying to control the play at the minute, and while Shelvey is equally erratic, at least he'll get stuck in. I'd be tempted to put Hendo on for Allen, but Rodgers wont.
Just give me the money instead of some faceless corporation.
By the way, I don't want to seem a downer, as he's got room to grow, but we've seen exactly what Sterling offers this season, and also what he does not. He's absolutely not there yet, and the fact that he's playing all the time says a lot about the rest of our attacking options.
Did someone ever really compare Allen to Iniesta in any way?
