Were we wrong about Fellaini?

Dude's been a fucking revelation the last 6-9 months. I watched that France-Belgium game the other night and he was the best player on the park by a distance, in some pretty illustrious company too. Scored another couple of decent goals as well.

We got this one wrong didn't we?

He's very effective when used correctly and is clearly not without talent but I don't think that was ever in much doubt.

The amusement came from a) the ridiculous transfer saga and b) watching Utd being reduced to relying on this guys thuggery (which for all the talent he does have still makes up a significant part of his game).

It's around that second point where the question still lingers: is he being used as part of a stop-gap system to stop the rot or will he end up being a "Utd" player in the long run?

I'd like to see him play when properly refereed. There's no reason why he shouldn't still be very effective, and vastly more entertaining, if he stopped trying to detach retinas or smash cheekbones. There is a good player in there, but within the carapace of a thug.

He's a very effective player when used to his strengths

He's like a more talented Kevin Davies

He was very good for Everton. He was capable of playing off the striker or in a defensive role. I think Keni nailed it above.

He looked great against us for Standard Liege, then Everton bought him. I have been saying he is the mancs best outfield player all season. The big, horrible, dirty get.

I think fellaini is much like benteke - you've got to play a system to their key attribute to get the most out of them and sort of build your team around what they're good at. If you don't do that then they both look bang average.

Like macca said - he's a good player, but give him the four or five red cards a season that he richly deserves, and then we'll see how effective he really is with his aggression and intimidation factor curtailed.

Can't stand the big ugly bluenose Manc git, but he's undoubtedly an effective player on his day. I never thought his inability to do well in a Manc team which was in freefall (by their standards) anyway meant he was cr@p, entertaining though it is to call him that.

I'd like to shear his hair. Just like a sheep. All off in one go.*

*You probably think it couldn't be done all in one go, but, believe me, I've thought long and hard about it and am convinced I could do it. He'd have to be seated, of course, but then I'd begin by placing the shaver at the nape of his neck, and then, very steadily, I would run around him, again and again, slowly moving the shaver upwards in a series of concentric circles, until I'm at the top, where, with a stylish little flourish, reminiscent of a triumphant bullfighter with his cape, I'd whip off the tiny bit of fuzz left in the centre.

Hung like a horse, that's fo sure:
