We're not active in the transfer window

I said when we sold Coutinho that it really meant that we had no plan whatsoever.
The only two teams in the entire football world that had to let their best players leave in the January window with years on their contracts left - were Southampton and Liverpool. The Coutinho money must have been to cover VvD and Keita. There is no other logical conclusion. With a certain fight for fourth on our hands it’s utter fucking bollocks. We are Firmino’s hamstring away from Europa league.

Watch as we capitulate* to Swansea on Monday and this site has a meltdown.

*Unless we batter them.

There's nothing really logical about selling your best player midway through a season without a plan to replace him immediately. If we have a replacement earmarked, then it was dumb to sell coutinho first. Going four months of the season, a crucial player down is ridiculous. If we fuck up then yeah, there will meltdown, rightly so.

Anyway, I don’t give a toss if we buy now or get our number 1 or 2 targets in the summer. It’s been said that Coutinho wasn’t going to play for us again so we sold him.

You mean once we’ve been dumped out of the CL and come in fifth place in the league. And no big name wants to come to us. Your logic is impeccable.

That's nothing to do with a logical explanation of why money isn't being spent now. The question that YOUR logical answer is for is something different.

Big gamble, hopefully it pays off.

We didn't reinforce in Jan last year when it came to our attack and it almost cost us too 4.

It's probably an unwise gamble. I was merely noting that this evaluation doesn't have anything to do with 'logic' as such when the question is: why isn't the money being spent now? That's all.

Now that we got both Keita and VVD (in addition to Salah and Mane earlier) I don’t feel much anxiety about the transfer market any more. Yes, it might take longer than we would like, but I have confidence that eventually we are going to sign our top-choice targets; we won’t be held ransom, like paying the insane £90M Monaco were asking for Lemar or another £20M+ to bring Keita early, but will overpay if necessary. I think within the next few transfer windows we’ll get Lemar and Pulisic and other top targets on Klopp’s list.

As for remainder of this season, we have enough quality for a top-4 finish, especially with the addition of VVD, and almost any quality January addition would have been cup tied in CL anyway. There is no good reason to be hysterical, unless you simply like bitching about things.

Sanity prevails. Though it would be nice just to have a little more depth. If we had got Keita early I'd have been very comfortable.

You also think Henderson is good enough so I get why you're all hakuna matata about it. But he's shite and we need better.

A lot will depend on whether Can stays or not. If he goes, we will definitely need another CM in addition to Keita in the summer.

Me too, but Leipzig was just asking for way too much. Let's hope Lallana can do that role of linking the midfield and attack that he did so well last season.

Even if he stays I feel we need keita plus another.

Do you want to sell one of Henderson or Wijnaldum? In terms of numbers, 4 senior CMs plus the likes of Grujic, Trent (who will transition to midfield I'm sure) and Ejaria seems to be quite enough, even if Milner leaves in the summer. 5 would make sense for me only if Klopp regularly played a formation with 3 "proper" CMs, which he never does.

Klopp is quite clever - you cannot argue with his points but I really think the evidence before our eyes suggests that we need more to this squad. But there is a much bigger reason to sign players this January than any other season:-

1) Its a world cup year - so players we are probably gonna be interested that may join us will not have full pre-season. It will be late signings and because of the WC - prices are likely to be further inflated.

2) When we have signed in January - our record has actually been good, as those players (where we have signed quality) have given a boost in the following season - look no further than Suarez, Sturridge, and Countinho. Half season of bedding in and the next season with pre-season they go onto perform really well.

Aside from the above - the other reason we need to sign is because it's obvious we need a Countinho type player for midfield, and also because we we need another quality midfielder regardless of Keita coming in next season and Can leaving (which he will). Mainly because we need the depth as Milner is getting older, and when the substitutes came on against City - we started to lose control a bit, so we are thin on that side with the main boys being Ox, Can, and Gini, the other three in Lalana, Hendo, and Milner are not as aggressive and slower. Then there is the need for another striker/forward of some kind with Sturridge due to go off on loan. There is no way we are the same team without any of our front three missing. The first 11 is there but the bench is not adequate and I don't really give a shit about goalkeepers right now although we need a 'strong/stable' goalie - but that is another debate.

Wijnaldum isn’t good enough

We are dickheads

Plain and simple...

The only thing to compete the cycle would be to sell Studge and recall Origi

Though I suspect we won't even do that..

Studge gets sold we will look to Ings..
