So to get it clear in my mind (and sorry for the example I'm about to give), what would be the manchester equivalent of wallassey compared to liverpool? And oldham/bury/stockport type thing?
Salford ;D

Dunno cos those three are self maintaining an i guess they have identity. The wirral is just like a wart on the end of liverpool's massive throbbing beast that rubs up against Wales a bit.

Or Northern..........sitting in the main stand watching Liverpool V Sunderland and the Sunderland fans were quite loud. One genius Scouser stands up and sings at them "There's only one team in Newcastle, One team in Newcastle.....". He must have wondered why nobody joined in and why we were looking at him like he's a moron.

That wasn't the point he was trying to make though.

Also, technically he was incorrect as there's also Newcastle Town who are non-league.

I always thought that was a very unscientific measurement. Anyways, I bet this church not only had a much greater unfettered aural field years ago, but also benefited from more vigorous, stronger, god fearing campanologists back in the day.

Also depending on the time of year, sound waves travel further in warm air - what if yer born in winter and can't hear the Bow Bells from where yer born but during the Summer you can?

Scouse Goalkeeper? I doubt it, none spring to mind anyway. I can't remember the name of the guy who was understudy to Clemence and I don't think he ever got a first team start (Clemence never got injured) but he may have been Scouse.

I can't remember his name but I'll check my scrapbooks when I get home - his name is at the tip of my tongue it was a shortish surname 5 or 6 letters, he had black hair and trimmed black beard.

Maybe JJ, Portly or Vlad might know and also know whether he was Scouse (he was definitely English) and whether or not he did make a first team appearance.
Edit: Woohoo, the old memory clicked into life...................Frankie Lane was his name. I've googled him and he was born in Wallasey and made one league appearance in his 4 years as Clem's understudy.
So we're still searching for a Scouse goalie then.

I got it from a guy I met in Thailand. Think he was from Manchester. We were sitting in sports bar talking about football, he was with a friend and I asked where they came from. His friend was from Sunderland. So I go "so you're a geordie?".
He's like, "no I'm not only people from Newcastle etc etc".
His Manc friend interrupts and says:
- You speak like a geordie, so you are a geordie.

Its unlikely anyone would be born within the sound of the Bow Bells now anyway - noone at all lives round there and its very noisy, so the sound of the bells would be drowned out.

It could be that anyone born in Barts could be, so that would still strictly speaking be in East London but then anyone born in Guys could be too, and that is South London
