He wasn't at fault for any of the goals.

One quality attacking player would of course be nice but I feel we are quite well covered in that department and a CB is the only real concern for me at the moment. I would also still like a dynamic centre mid to push Lucas out of the starting lineup.

He's improved a whole lot since the "lucarse" (anti-brazilian) days. He's no Makelele. But he's done well so far.

if we do go for Dann I hope it's not as the cheaper option or someone who might not play all the time as carragher/agger are going to be 1st choice . I'm not saying drop either but if they're going for a defender it's because they feel something needs strengthening and then they should get the best rather than a stop gap . We really might regret not getting cahill in a few yrs when carragher is finally past it .

Yes i know , if the player doesn't want to join us or wants champs football than what can you do , but i'd be surprised if Cahill wouldn't come to us , even ahead of arsenal

With Gerrard fucked, Suarez is the only matchwinner we have. If he gets injured, we'll struggle to get goals. We badly need another quality attacking player. And as you say a top quality CB and CM as well.

I would like to see us evaluating players from the German league for Central Defenders. Of course, getting Subotic or Hummels may not be possible. But there are other defenders in the league who are probably better than Cahill/Dann etc...

Here is a few i would look at ....

Naldo
Per Mertesacker
Benedikt Höwedes
Serdar Tasci

None of them would cost anywhere near what Cahill/Dann would do, and they are all probably better players as well.

If we do get one of the English duo we have been linked with, i hope it Cahill and not Dann.

The temptation with Naldo and Per is that they are towering Center Halfs at 6'6 and absolutely indomitable in the air. They are also pretty good alround defenders, although may be lacking a bit in mobility. At 28, Age is a bit of a negative point for Naldo, and the fact that he is returning from a long term injury will be another concern.

Benedikt is aces. He is an alround leader in the Carra mould. If we are looking for a replacement for Carra...He is the man. Cahill is not a bad option as well for a Carra replacement. Only i fear he will be slightly overpriced. But if he can come and perform like Downing has, Price will be a moot point.
