We just have to buy Gary Cahill

I've never been convinced on spending a fortune on a CB. A decent one for £5m ish fair enough. Anything over £10m, no thanks.

I tend to agree but I have to put two names out there.
David Luiz - class
Ferdinand - class

I don't think we're gonna find another Hyypia without emptying our pockets this time around.
Unless we find someone in a mid-level team in Belgium.
Other candidates like Subotic or Hummels are gonna cost us...

Sorry, I meant to say in our current position rather than just as a general statement. We could better use what money we have elsewhere.

I'm so encouraged by our youngsters that I throw Kelly in the middle with Carra to give him some guidance.

Jury's out on Kelly tbf. I've only seen him at right back.

kelly is a beast. you could play him up front and he'd do well. The lads a monster

TOTTENHAM and Liverpool are in a straight shootout for Bolton defender Gary Cahill.

The England centre-half has been linked with moves to every side in the top five, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal also said to be in the running.

But Harry Redknapp and Kenny Dalglish are believed to be the only two managers chasing the £15million-rated 25-year-old.

Cahill knows he will have to quit Bolton if he wants regular European football.

And he will be offered the chance to move to White Hart Lane or Anfield at the end of the season.

I agree with 737Max. We're paying premium because he's english. Subotic is amazing

15 mill would get you Subotics right boot. Dortmund doesnt have to sell and he probably doesnt want to leave. It will cost much less than 15 mill for Cahill because of his contract situation. I reckon 10 mill would do it, and thats a fair fee. The lad is ace, and one bad game against Stoke doesnt change that. Agger may have had a low fee, but he was bought from Brøndby and thats a massive difference. And I wouldnt use him as an example as he has cost us a helluvalot in with all his injuries. Id rather pay double the fee and have a fit player.

Im pretty sure there will be players equal to Cahill's age and ability in Europe who will cost a third of what Cahill will go for. Im sick of this paying premium for English its stupid.

No it isn't. If it were, English clubs wouldn't get away with charging the premium.

Cahill is the right standard, experienced in the Prem and pretty local already, so wouldn't have a major job settling in. He'd make a far better signing than somebody who may not even fit the first of those criteria once he's been tested in the Prem, let alone the other two.

yeah i know we\d struggle to get subotic..... but theres no harm in dreaming....

A solid premiership player doesn't always guarantee settling in quick, Keane is a prime example. I personally would not like to spend £15 million on him if it could possibly be spent more wisely with solid scouting. Vidic and Agger are great examples of solid scouting of centre halves where they have been bought for less than half of what we have been quoted for Cahill.

Decent game by Cahill today.

is cahill quick?
is he decent with the ball at his feet?

Quick? Somewhat. But he's an intelligent footballer. His positioning is probably his best 'feature'.

Decent is the right word. He's in no way as good as Agger but he's no hoofer either.

That might (MIGHT) have been true once. It certainly isn't now.

Cahill has decent pace actually, and that combined with his positioning skills is a very good combo.

[/quote]Agger is still better than Cahill with the ball on his feet.

The point I think is that Agger wil never have the ball at his feet.

Have to be on the pitch for that 🙁

if we were to purchase cahill would be interesting to see if carra is the one to partner him. carra is obviously a better defender than skrtel (wont mention agger as he can't be relied upon) but will kenny attempt to develope a long term partnership rather than go for the more experienced player?
