After reading this article it's fair to say Degen, Aqualani and Aurelio owe us a refund.

Milan defender Oguchi Onyewu has pledged to play an entire season without pay for the Italian giants.

The USA centre-back has signed a one-year extension on his contract with the Rossoneri, committing him to the club until the end of the 2012-13 campaign, but requested not to be paid any salary for that year.

Onyewu joined Milan from Belgian club Standard Liege last summer, but only made one appearance for them before rupturing the patellar tendon in his left knee while on international duty in October.

The 28-year-old, who had a loan spell at Newcastle United in 2007, has now returned to full fitness and has been named in USA boss Bob Bradley's 30-man provisional World Cup squad.

In recompense for picking up most of his first year's wages at the club on the treatment table, Onyewu requested that he played a year for free, for which the club praised him as "a star".

The club said in a statement: "Onyewu, who has been out for virtually the whole season due to injury, but who at this time is getting ready to face the World Cup adventure in South Africa with his national team, has become a star today with a significant gesture from a personal and professional standpoint.

"Onyewu has requested and obtained a contract extension from 30 June 2012 until 30 June 2013. With respect to that year, as was his wish, which has been appreciated by the club, Onyewu has asked not to receive any type of wages. This is an exemplary gesture that deserves our sincere congratulations."

Dear Oguchi Onyewu,

Don't you fucking DARE work for nothing !

Yours, remembering our history (for fucks sake)

Harry Kewell was reported to be nervous about the offer Mr Onyewu had made, but felt that backdating of the precedent could only apply for 2 years. And only if still employed by the same club. And only if multiple different injuries didn't apply. And only if you weren't married to a soapstar.

'I think, sadly, that may rule me out' he said.

Listen, I respect his stance but in Israel, we'd call him a friar (a sucker).

He's a sucker anywhere you live.

Professional sportsmen give up all sorts of income security to go down an incredibly unlikely career path. He gets this injury at 15, and he may never get paid to play in his life, and no one is making any grand gestures toward him. If he gets injured again next year, he'll get dropped, Milan won't return the favour.

Exteberria has already done this.

I think Redondo did this once too?
This doesn't sound right! A Jew calling someone a sucker for turning down money?

😉

Redondo did is as he was injured before he even played for Milan. Exteberria did it to save his club some money... Good gestures. (By the way, Milan did not accept Redondos offer, and paid him anyway....)

Degen owes us millons, the fat, useless clown.

Degen may be a clown and owe us million but he isn't fat.

He looks like he should be.
That's pretty compelling. I'd back down on this one ILD.

I never noticed before (because obviously I have rarely seen him) but he does have a look of someone who will be fat one day. He's a fat man walking.

That didn't even make sense Squiggles. At least post some pictures of a fat Degen.

Ha, I bet Onyewu thought they'd say the same to him! Instead of which he gets a pat on the back and a year without pay. Tough break...

It was the only way they'd have kept him on; he's shit
I think that's the quintessence of the whole story.

If they fucked him off he'd never have the chance to play for a top club again.
