100% this. He's still our best defender but he's no longer infallible and increasingly passive.

If we're not trying to recruit his successor in the next two windows, I don't know what we're doing other than not learning lessons.

And if someone were to knock our doors off with a huge offer, we should be strongly considering it.
Don't worry. Our owners and transfer committee have mapped out a plan to replace him by 2032. Finding the "right" central defender takes time, you know.

He is now where Hendo was about 12 months ago. He's going off the cliff physically and people will continue to make excuses for him until it can no longer be denied. He has been arguably our best ever defender but he's 32 this summer and those day are never coming back. He still has a role to play, but we need to adapt our system if we intend to keep playing players past their prime years. Klopp seems to think our squad is still full of 27 year old pressing machines.

To be honest the defender I'm most concerned about is Robbo. He's an energy level player,he doesn't really have the technical or physical characteristics that's set him apart from his peers, he's all about energy and commitment. Once that drops, he like Hendo, will be badly exposed and he started to show worrying signs that he's headed that direction.

There's this, too. Fortunately, full backs tend to be cheaper than centrebacks.

I am wondering if he is already there. His best performance this season has been in the post match press conference where he consistently claims we need to do better.
