Virgiling on the vandijkulous

Guardiola confirmed he wants another CB, watch them go buy VVD, while we scratch our heads wondering wtf happened.

Nah they will sign one for half the price and he will actually be worth it. But at this point I don't give a fuck if VVD or some other CB costs us 100m because if we start the season with that useless cunt Klavan the club can do one.

Gomez is suddenly being talked up a fair bit by Pearce etc.

That doesn't bode well for the VVD deal.

Ha. Should have said "a club other than us". The point is that he's set his heart on LFC and in those circs Citeh are no more likely to get him than the Chavs were.

Is FFP still applicable? I thought it dies as soon as Platini's French clubs got massive injections of wonga.
Still going. Of course City's owners would just have to ask a sponsor making plastic forks to add £100m for the privilege of using them in the canteen.

It's doing the rounds that he's joining back up with the rest of the squad today and wont be training alone any more. Oh noes! No Keita nor VVD lolz

Maybe it's for the best. VVD was madly overpriced and we all had big hopes for Gomez based on his initial impression.

As @peekay said, even if we don't get someone to push Lovren down the pecking order, we should at least get someone to push Klavan further down.

If that's the case, we might as well use Sakho. He's better than Klavan.

I was hoping for someone significantly better than Lovren tbh. I don't know if VVD is that player, but it's negligence of the highest order if we don't get a player of that caliber this summer.

It's been in the rounds for a while now that Southampton were going to try bring him back into the squad this week, there's nothing new there, and considering Southampton were the ones who took him out of the squad to begin with, I don't think there's anything to read into here either. Interestingly these reports have been saying that Pellegrino was going to decide this week and that he'd make both long term and short term plans to deal without him, so maybe if VVDs heart still isn't in it this will happen.

I was hoping for someone significantly better than Lovren too. Apparently the only defender fitting into that category is VVD.

I would play Sakho over Klavan also. But that is not happening either.

The VVD debacle happened a month ago. It's pathetic that we've just waited this long to see if Southampton change their stance, instead of actively looking for a replacement.

The likes of Koulibaly, De Vrij, Laporte are just as highly rated across Europe as van Dijk. With the kind of money we're willing to spend, we could have gotten any one of them.

I find it difficult to believe that van Dijk is so much better than any of them that he's the only one worth signing.

I think the reason everyone is struggling to understand our approach to transfers this summer is that there's more going on than meets the eye. I have several suspicions. I don't believe for a second that we were willing to just go and spend 150 mill on dickulous and keita.

Rosco's Coutinho theory is certainly plausible. We have form for such dickheadedness.

Not a chance, there was no way our owners were gonna spend that money without a return. The sale of Coutinho.

Same here. What is Rosco's Coutinho theory?

I'd rather read the camper's percentage gibberish than the tin-foil-hat-brigade's conspiracy theories. We were about to spend big because Klopp has convinced the Yanks that with a few specific additions we can be contenders. We're building a team, not intentionally deconstructing one.

Koulibaly would cost probably more than 60M, De Vrij is highly-rated but very injury-prone. You're probably right about Laporte though, I think his release clause this summer is £54M. Apparently he was all set to sign for City last summer, only to change his mind at the last minute and sign another contract with Athletic with a higher release clause.
