Virgiling on the vandijkulous

Yeh nobody else has come in and he wants to go. It'll drag on no doubt but gettin keita in before then will protect the defence a little more than usual until he signs and becomes our defensive saviour for the next ten years.

Rumours of a bid from Everton (go figure), maybe thats what can get us back to the table.

Haha. As if VVD would go there. Lame journalism anyway, they are being linked with everyone including £40m for Sigurdsson and some other German.

Virgil van Dijk has told Southampton he ONLY wants to join Liverpool leaving the Saints in danger of missing out on a bumper £50 million pay day.

The disgruntled Dutchman, who turned 26 on Saturday, wants to push through a move to Anfield even though Liverpool were warned off last month for allegedly tapping up the defender after Saints complained to the Premier League.

Liverpool backed off with an apology – but Jurgen Klopp is desperate to add the commanding centre-half to his squad and hasn’t given up hope of doing a deal before the window closes.

Southampton don’t want to lose van Dijk but the Dutchman has made it clear he wants to play Champions League football as he did at Celtic before his move to St Mary’s.

New Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino doesn’t want to keep unhappy players but Southampton have backed themselves into a corner.

Chelsea and Manchester United were both initially interested in van Dijk but Jose Mourinho has signed Swedish star Victor Lindelof from Benfica and Chelsea are closing on a deal for Roma’s German international Antonio Rudiger.

Manchester City also had van Dijk on their radar but have yet to make a decisive move.

That leaves Liverpool as the only club with a declared interest in the Dutchman – and Southampton in a dilemma with Pellegrino wanting funds to boost his squad.

Perhaps City will bail them out. I was chatting to a City fan who said all the chat has now turned to them signing a CB.

If not, Southampton need bending over on this one.

If there was a worry, it would be how panicked City will be into getting their transfers done. There's news that Dani Alves is also turning them down now in favour of PSG as well, and with Utd outmuscling Chelsea to Lukaku, the big cash signing wheel is starting to spin full blast now. It'll be a yuge signal of intent and shrewdness if we can get VVD and Keita signed this window, but we know how things can change in such short time with regards to football transfers be.

Hopefully he really is only interested in Liverpool, and not only interested in a champions league team.

Given what's happened already with Southampton we really shouldn't be touching this until he makes a formal transfer request. Leaking to the papers that Anfield is his preferred destination doesn't really do anything for us.

£60 mill on a player who clearly has his heart set on playing for another team? Maybe, but I can't see citeh doing that when they can pretty much buy who they like away from vvd.

I don't think it affects us adversely either. That previous complaint is formally done and dusted so neither Southampton nor the FA can make anything of it now. What it does do is increase the pressure on Southampton to sell to us and, as I and others have said before, we should use that for all it's worth if we do go back in for him.

I just hope we don't wait too long. Southampton will want to spend the money from any sale and the longer it goes on, the less likely the will sell, IMO. If he's going to hand in his request then he better do it sharpish.

If they sign him it's not like he'll down tools for a new side. He might prefer us but he's not going to tank his career over it.

Lukaku "preferred" Chelsea too, allegedly.

If (a big "if" currently, but still) he agrees to go there he'll do his best, but in Citeh's place I'd still be asking myself how good that "best" would turn out to be, given that he's nailed his colours so firmly to the LFC mast.
