Unless someone who knows their shit steps up & has the time to set up a new forum then we're gonna have to go down the discord route IMO.
Unless someone know of any full forum hosting packages we can price up & see if we can get enough donations, I don't know of any, I can do a bit of research this evening though.

Vbulletin has forum install for 250 quid and hosting for 15 a month. Can even pay for someone to set it up.

Research is needed migrate xenforo db into in vbulletin..
You can do it the other way round... but I am not sure from xenforo to Vbulletin
Beside you want to keep xenforo it is the better software with better support.. but costs more to run..

There has to be a decision who has the keys, i.e ownership of the domain, web hosting, take donations etc etc..
IMHO that should be one of the founder members.. But entirely upto you how you want to do it..

I am not sure I have ever felt more out of my depth than in this thread. I don't even understand what needs doing, so although I can be 100% sure that I can't do it, I couldn't even begin to research anyone who could!
However, I have been here from the start. I would hate for the site to close. I can probably only really help by chipping in a bit of cash if and when you need donations, but I'm certainly happy to do so.

Xenforo was made by the people who originally created vBulletin. When vBulletin was sold up they created a newer better forum software in Xenforo. Going to vBulletin is a backward step. Surely you can can migrate to Xenforo newer version and then just shift to a newer secure host. The admin should be fairly straightforward for most tech savvy people. Integrations to social media etc are all plugin based anyway so shouldn't be too difficult with some FTP knowledge.

No the problem is the infrastructure we are on a legacy version of PHP, which cannot be upgraded because of the legacy Linux varient it resides on..
Xenforo 1.x cannot be upgraded with our version of PHP to Xenforo 2.x. its not supported..
No option but to build from scratch or use a managed web host that has that implemented for you..
Then import the the database.. probably best installing xenforo 1.x on the new host, import the database then upgrade to xenforo 2.x

I would suggest that we move to something that doesn't require much(any) tech knowledge and has less touchpoints(one provider for everything if possible). I don't really know what "better" is for forums, it's a relatively simple concept, other than low maintenance. I'd put retaining posts and usernames at a much lower priority than that, but if that were possible too, then great.
