Not sure if there's a thread on this, but hey ho.

Fox Sports here are claiming it's a done deal and he's the new Manc manager. Will be announced next week, and he's bringing 5 new coaching staff members with him apparently.

Sothereyougo.

Hopefully the five are abrasive, dismissive, divisive, impulsive and repulsive.

Results could be pretty explosive.

Don't know how I feel about this - he's a nut case, but can also be brilliant. Hopefully, he pisses off Ferguson and Charlton quickly.

I know nothing about him but he seems to have been sacked a lot. I like this.

By the looks of redcafe, the scum fans really aren't sure what to make of him. A poll with 500+ voters went 33% yes, 66% no or undecided.
They were all under the delusion they could cherry pick any manager in the world they fancied, so they were all squabbling over whether it was to be pep/klopp/mourinho or ancelotti.
Van Gaal has been whoring himself out for quite some time to anyone that would listen, sounding a bit desperate. So I'm not sure how positive that is.
If he comes in it'll surely knacker their summer recruitment as he'll have no idea what he needs, or what is coming and going. With a mass exodus likely. And he'll be tied up looking after his current team until late in the summer. It'll be a bit of a piss take if he tries to run two contracts at once and waltzes into old trafford trying to take over any time soon.

It'd be nice if they fell on their arse again with him, but he's a bit of an unknown quantity I guess. They could be champions again next season or finish 7th again and he gets the boot. He's been sacked at Barca and Bayern, and forced to resign at Barca and Ajax.

Hasnt managed a club since '11 I think.
Wont start working until after the WC.

He's a nutter but a brilliant coach on his day. Dont know what to expect actually. I hope he falla out with everyone.
Will probably attract some good players for them though.

He's also won stuff at every club he's been at. 3 league titles, the CL and the UEFA Cup at Ajax. 2 La Liga titles and a Copa del Rey with Barca, 1 league title with AZ and 1 league title with Bayern.

But on the flipside, he flopped majorly in his first stint as Holland coach, and in his second reign at Barca. Clashes with the media and within the club pretty much wherever he's been.

Like I said, I hope he antagonises Fergie and his chums pronto, and the English media gets on his back quickly.

When he's been successful, hasn't he inherited a talented squad? I'm not heard of him having to do an overhaul anywhere and being successful?

His first stint at Barca (the successful one) he inherited a Cruyff team with Stoichkov, Ronaldo, Blanc, Figo, Pep, Luis Enrique, Nadal.
When he went to Bayern he got the Heynckes squad with Lucio, Lahm, Ribery, Ze Roberto, Schweinsteiger, Podolski, Klose, Muller.

He's got a fucking shock coming when he teams up with smalling, rio, cleverly, fletcher, fellaini, carrick, young, nani, valencia and an inconsistent rooney. Their 'star' players are mata and rvp (always broken). He's used to having a team full of world class players when he's been successful.

Won the league in his 1st season (70 pts, the 2nd lowest point total required to win a title over the past 10+ Bundesliga seasons).

In his 2nd season, he was sacked when BM was 4th in the league and risk missing out on CL football. Was also eliminated after Round of 16 in CL and lost in semis of the German Cup.

I don't know much about the guy - did he make many big money transfers when at Bayern or Barca?

LOL What?
Van Gaal never inherited a Heynckes squad.
Muller is a Van Gaal player, he hardly played before Van Gaal. Schweinsteiger was moved into a central/defensive midfield roll. He played as an attacking midfielder prior to Van Gaal.
And he brought in Robben to balance the wings.
Ze Roberto didn't play in the Van Gaal bayern, neither did Lucio or Podolski. Toni was sold too.

What? So Heynckes wasn't the manager before him? I thought he was? So he didn't have a squad with those players in when he got there?

Klinsmann was manager in 08/09 but got sacked in April as they were 3rd in the league and risk missing out on CL and Jupp Heynckes took charge as caretaker manager until end of the season.

Yeah, he brought in Muller and Badstuber into the team. Both were 20 back then. But they were blooded into a pretty strong squad.

In that 1st season where he won the Bundesliga, they signed Olic and Gomez who scored 25 goals in 50 games and 35 in 44 respectively the previous season. €80m was spent with about a quarter recouped from sales (and they drew about 1/3 of their league matches). The (lesser-known name) signings of Braafheid and Pranjic from the Dutch league (presumably under Van Gaal's recommendation since he was at AZ Alkmaar before joining BM) weren't exactly successful either.

I used to like Van Gaal being a bit of a boss for Bayern. Player without a striker at times and having strong midfielders running from deep.

No idea what he'll do at United. RVP will be his main man I presume.

I read a good article about him a few years back and an autobiography from a player about him as a coach Barca.

Apparently a complete nut job who treats the players like they are the kids in the sound of music. He has the whistle and all and is incredible strict in terms if disciple. Anyone questions him or his methods gets the boot in instantly.
I don't see it working when many of the players won't have respect for him As he's been out of the game for a while.

Except that he'll be coming straight off the back of coaching Holland at the World Cup?
Hodge podge is English coach, scolari never got respect at Chelsea and was Brasil coach.

At a club like Utd that are full of players who won everything and full of ego they'll only respect a club manager with recent success IMHO

Ha! Hopefully he gets Netherlands to the final, thus keeping him in Brazil until July 13. Then there's the vacation he'll take (probably), and that's the pre-season planning down the drain (or at least delegated to his staff to manage). Then he comes back and before he knows it, they (hopefully) have a few Europa League qualifying games to play. Might end up being a late start for the Mancs again, just like this season when Moyes took over.

The media hacks will be all over this (and them) if they start with a stutter.

Why won't they respect him? He has won major trophies at high profile clubs and has managed big ego's in the past. He's also the current Holland manager which is known for it's disruptive nature at tournaments. Hardly out of the game.

Apologies if quiffing but this made me laugh

Wayne Rooney has reportedly asked senior Manchester United officials not to appoint Louis van Gaal as manager this summer.
Van Gaal is the favourite to take up the hot seat at Old Trafford, following the sacking of David Moyes last week.
But according to reports, Rooney has asked the board to consider somebody else – as he is not a fan of the Dutchman’s hard-line methods.
The Daily Mail claims that Rooney, who has a strong influence over the goings on at United after signing a new contract recently, believes Van Gaal would overlook him as the next captain and would challenge his authority with the players.
It’s not clear whether the board will listen, but Van Gaal is yet to sign anything, meaning it would be easy for United to look elsewhere.

An ideal scenario would be a LVG & RVP vs Rooney debacle.

Apols for all the abbrev.
