They feel they'll slip back even further if they take a long term approach. Which is why Mourinho's potential short term success is appealing to them.

If I were them I'd go all out for Pochettino. Knows the English game, can develop young players, decent sort who won't drag the club's name down by stupid antics.

But more importantly - revamp the strategy of the club. Stop buying overpriced and overpaid superstars like Di Maria and Shweinsteiger. Use the resources to go for THE best 17 - 19 year old kids, build up a nucleus that develops together - teach them a philosophy like the classic United wide attacking game. Even if you miss out on a Champions League season or two.

Getting Mourinho and throwing silly money at him is a bit like becoming a poor man's Real Madrid.

It's a great appointment for United's shareholders. It's a terrible appointment for United's principles. I think people are kidding themselves with this though. Even if he brings them short-term success, it's still a few years of potential honours, which leaves them in a healthy position again, as opposed to bringing in another risk appointment. They've also just announced massive sponsorship and TV revenue, which puts them not far off the riches of the Spanish giants. It's an appointment we should be worried about because it's a match made in heaven for them, a cunt of a club and cunt of a manager. He's exactly everything we loathed about that Whiskey nosed twat.

Quite agree Mark. This appointment will give Mourinho pretty much the same transfer kitty, or more, that he was given by Abramovich. I can't see how this will not lead to a far more competitive United - capable of winning titles and challenging for the CL again.

Their traditional attacking style will be a thing of the past though, I can't help thinking that they could have got another highly valued manager that, given their spending power, could achieve pretty much the same but have the team play more in keeping with their tradition.

It's possible, the Utd crowd will have mixed feelings about Mourinho and he won't get a long honeymoon start so if he pulls his usual tricks they might turn on him.

It does seem unlikely that Edward Woody Woodwouldward would appoint someone to replace himself. It was in The Guardian I think. Appaz the DOF is a requirement from Mourinho. It could well be bollocks.

On the surface he would seem to be the most proven candidate, but I'd be concerned if I were you, for a number of reasons:

1) You are well behind Man City in terms of a squad, can't outspend them worth talking about and arguably, with Pep in charge and them having CL football (and you not having CL football) won't be a better draw for footballers than they are;
2) Mourinho may well get blindsided by his hatred of Pep that he forgets his actual job;
3) In the eight seasons after taking the Porto job, Mourinho won six league titles and two Champions Leagues. Since going to Madrid in 2010 he has won just two league titles. There is evidence - albeit tenuous - that he is past his best.
