Another home draw looming? Carroll to come good?

With Suarez banned I'd suggest we should line up as:

Carroll

Bellers Maxi Kuyt

Henderson Adam

Enrique Agger Skrtel Johnson

Baldy

After Wigan and Blackburn ive really lost my erection for this season.
Maybe we beat Newcastle, maybe we beat City....then we'll fuck up against Wolves and Stoke.
This season. Its not fun.

I'd put Downing on the left, Maxi on the right and Bellers behind Carroll.

I know Downing has been shite but maybe with Newcastle's weak defence putting some decent balls into Carroll would help both players.

Downing and Carroll - £55M of underperforming meh.

They have the talent to come good but I'm starting to dismiss them both.

Yup.

I don't know why I'm all for playing them both. With Carroll we don't have a choice due to a lack of options.

Downing has to start, he offers more than kuyt presently. Bellamy on the left, gerrard behind carrol, adam and spearing in a midfield 2.

This is mine if gerrard isn't ready

Yeah, I think it needs refreshing a bit and I'm tempted to drop Downing, though he has been better of late, we need goals though. Maybe even get Shelvey and Dirk in there, but we'd be horribly slow as a result. Spearing is there to give us a bit more steel and mobility against their midfield.

I'm sure Gerrard will play at some point. Looked back to hiw own self against Blackburn.

We are due a major win and I reckon it'll come tomorrow. 4-0 us.

It'd be ironic without Suarez, but as they say, it's a funny old game. He's still been great but he couldn't hit a cows arse and despite the fact that he is the main source of creativity, he hasn't been at his best of late compared to how he can play. We need to show, once again, that we're not a one man team. With that back four we've got the foundation there, we just need the right blend in midfield and attack, and the right attitude. Someone said yesterday that we've been 'outplayed' by the two bottom of the table sides, which is just nonsense, we've played them off the park, we just lack a cutting edge.

I've thought about much the same mate, and it is a funny old game alright. Suarez has been a revelation so far but perhaps he's somehow overshadowed a few others that'll now show their true colours in his absence?

One can always hope.

I love the way everyone is acting like Downing is shit, it amuses me no end.

He's not been bad. He's not been great either, but then considering how often we get players in the box (not often or quickly enough), it aint all his fault. The fella has whipped in more crosses than I've seen someone in a Liverpool shirt do in fucking years.

Yes I think he can do better, & his game has a few easily rectified faults, but TBH, the main one is crossing from to close to the touchline/too late, & as I've just said, we get men in the box very late, so as he doesn't 'do a pennant' & cross without looking, he's almost certainly giving the attackers a chance to get into the box. Unfortunately this also gives their defenders a chance to get into the box & they know exactly what cross is coming as he can only play one type of ball so late.

If we improve our movement upfront & commit more often (yes Carroll, I'm looking at you), Downing will look better IMO.

Agree jon, it's too ready to blame downing. His build up is great and yes his crosses are hesitant, but if ANYONE would run into the fucking box his crosses would be quicker

I like downing and to hell with all those who disagree

For the 1st time in 6 seasons I've sold my ticket for this when I am able to go. I can't stand it. The atmosphere is crap. We can't score. It's depressing.

I wasn't really having a pop at Downing, I was thinking more about Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy getting goals. I don't think he's bad, his decision making has been hit and miss and tbf he and Carroll haven't had much playing time together.

Reina
Kelly Skrtel Agger Enrique
Downing Spearing Adam Bellamy
Shelvey
Carroll

With City 4 days later (?), i wouldn't be surprised if Kenny rested a couple of players.

[/quote]Honestly, really and truly, if Maxi doesnt play against Newcastle I will want Kenny sacked.

I really want Downing and Carroll to play though.

Guess this could work:

Reina
Defence
Downing Hendo/Spearing Adam Maxi
Bellers Carroll

I dont want Kuyt in there, I think he's been shite this season. He's due a goal though so you neverknow.

He's not due a goal because he's not been threatening to score

he's been shit, end of.

He's got 5 goals and 2 assists in 8 games against Newcastle though, good time to start scoring again.

What are the tactical reasons behind him being continually outpaced by fullbacks, failing to beat a man and putting in hopeful crosses due to lacking any kind of creativity or invention in the final third?

These are not easily rectified faults. They are the reasons he's never been picked up by a top club till now and the only reason that changed (apparently) is because this particular top club ceased to become a top club and could not attract the type of quality top clubs normally aspire to. Says it all, does it not?

The fact that we're hoping (based on next to no evidence) that another player who isn't good enough will somehow justify his signing is a sad indictment of where we are right now.

He's created something like 39 chances so far, and with a convarstion rate of 8 % that kind of explains itself why he hasnt delivered assists.

Should have had at least 3-4 goals though, cant get past that.

Our finishing has been woeful, but I'd like to see all 39 of these chances. They're not simply counting clear cut chances, are they? There will be half chances and probably less than lumped into that total.

Outpaced by fullbacks? He's rarely in a straight race with them, & as I noted, his crosses more often than not have come from by the touchline, so that's not an issue.

Quite frankly I think you're being massively unfair on him in most of those criticisms, especially failing to beat a man. On the right he consistently gets past his man & on the left he relies onpassing & timing to get into the right place to cross, quite successively most of the time.

The fact no-one is converting the chances is hardly his fault.

Look at it this way, if we get the ball into the box more often logic tells you that no matter how shit the ball we should score, cos the defenders have to deal with our attackers & the ball. However we rarely have anyone in the box when the ball arrives, so we're simply not capitalising on those chances that he is creating.

First up, I'm a little drunk.

This game is bigger than the game that follows against City so for that reason, I would go with:

Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
Henderson Gerrard Adam
Maxi Bellamy
Carroll

Downing is great for us. We're a 6th placed team and obviously looking to stay there so the more Stewart Downing's we have, the better I say.

Our fans are a bunch of fucking losers.
