Well, it's the biggest event in their history at the weekend, at probably one of the greatest sporting arenas on the planet.
Conor v Alvarez - Well as usual this is a tough one to call. On paper, Alvarez is better fighter, better pedigree, has fought better fighters and won, better cardio, more rounded. But, he's never faced a fighter with such massive self belief, and pinpoint striking with power. And Conor keeps winning when he on paper shouldn't. It's a coin flip for me between a Conor 1st round KO or an Alvarez decision. I'm going to go for the decision but would not be at all surprised to see the KO.
Woodley v Thomspon - This is straightforward one for me although Woodley is a good fighter, it's Thompson all day long for me. He's so difficult to fight, so awkward, and has so many tools in his arsenal, whereas Woodley is very athletic but doesn't have the greatest striking or submissions. Stoppage or submission for Thompson I'd go for here, he's got a big future infront of him.
Weidman vs Romero - Weidman has a lot of tools to win this win this one. He's a solid reliable fighter, well rounded in all aspects if not gifted in submission wrestling although not a a JJ master. He's got a considerable reach advantage on Romero, a great gas tank, patient striking, and happy if it goes to the ground. Romero ont he other hand has an iffy gas tank and is built like a brick shit house and much shorter, so he tends to be fairly inactive during rounds, using his head to save his gas tank, but, when he does bang he's a savage monster, super powerful and fast. If Romero catches Weidman, there's no way his chin holds up, but a big it. My head tells me Weidman wins an easy decision, but I have a nasty feeling the Romero is going to catch him and royally fuck up Weidman's destiny back to the belt.
Gastelum v Cerrone - Gastelum is the shorter more powerful fighter here, and up until recently I would have said he'd have mullered Cerrone at the weight class, but Cerrone is looking great as of late, smashing everyone infront of him and he's more comfortable now at this weight. Cerrone only usually loses to southpaws, he struggles with them, and Gastelum is a southpaw, but I think Cerrone breaks his duck here, Cerrone by decision.
Edgar v Stephens - These guys are usually too small for ko's, and apart from Aldo, Edgar is the best in this division. I see a lopsided decision for Frankie here. He's too good allround here, although Stephens is as tough as nails I don't think he's got enough moving forward.
Khabib v Johnson - Finally Khabib is back and against decent opposition. Johnson likes to stand and bang, although he's not very good it, but he is very durable, I don't think he's ever been stopped/ko'd only submitted, but I think Khabib the beast wrestlefucks the shit out of him here and sets him up for his first ever stoppage after smashing him.
