Right, i know fuck all about the Irish national side, but all i've heard is that you get good results in spite of Trap, or you drop points because of Trap.

Whats he doing wrong?

How would you improve on it?

Ideally this is a thread for the Irish lads and shouldn't descend into a lovely irish/english hatred.

We'd still beat England but the main criticisms are:

Rigid tactics regardless of who is available- always 4-4-2 and his preference is for workmanlike players in CM rather than talented footballers.

A preference for experienced players despite the younger ones playing more consistently at a better level.

His refusal to play lads that have talent unless he absolutely has to.
 
I was really really pissed off with him last night. He cost us two points with his substitutions. Took Long off who tormented the Austrian defence all night, and was the only one capable of holding the ball up.

Our midfield needed help as well but he left Hoolahan on the bench, another player who could hold the ball up.

Basically he decided to sit on a 2 - 1 lead and to be quite honest, a better team than Austria would have equalised earlier and probably gone on to win the game.

He didnt even have the gumption to make a substitution with a minute to go if for no other reason than to break the play up.
 
He's stubborn and cautious, both about selections and tactics. I still have plenty of respect for him and what he's done in the game, but at this stage he's just too negative about everything. Having said that I still believe Ireland will end up higher than Austria, and so they should - the Germans are quite enough for this world, we don't need bloody ersatz Germans, too!

This thread is littered with casual racism and xenophobia towards the Irish.

Its an utter disgrace.
 
Is it possible to put people on ignore just for a single thread?

(apart from staying out of it myself that is)
