Transfer Rumours

Poor Agger.

One of Barcelona's top transfer targets is Valencia defender Jeremy Mathieu, and at today's press conference, sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has confirmed that a bid has been lodged for the 30-year-old France international.

Wow. Are there really no decent CBs who're available in the world right now? Maybe Lovren was fishing for a move to Barca afterall. "My head's in Liverpool but my eyes are on Barca".

Chelsea's 1st 11 looks scary:

Is he any good?

He looks like he was good last season but not so good before that from the stats.

I have seen his name mentioned as a potential forward loads along with Kevin Volland but it may well be just from FM players.
He's better than Volland, who isn't a bad player himself but looks a tad agricultural at times. Lacazette is in the Tevez mould - no. 10, small but strong, quick, good technically, solid good work-rate. I think he could develop to be a very good player - but maybe not an absolute top class one like Tevez. We could do a lot worse than him, but as I said before, almost everyone seems underwhelming as a Suarez replacement.

Another issue I have is that we now largely seem to be a squad of players in 20-25 age group. That bodes very well for the future, especially because the quality of these players, unlike in the past, seems to be very good. But to be able to challenge for the title, we'll need a few players (at least one in defence, midfield and attack apiece) who're more advanced in their development (read in the 25-30 age group), are at the peak of their powers, and provide the leadership and responsibility needed to really win things.

I think this is especially true for the attack with Suarez gone (at least with you can look to Skrtel and Gerrard for the defence and midfield).

I bet you could make an equally 'scary' first XI for any of the top 4 clubs.

Anyway, Chelsea might well win the title this year. But sooner or later Abramovich will sack him off, and they'll be back on the merry-go-round of managers, and that's when the better run clubs will have their chance.

Not that worried. Talent but no team

The next 7 behind that team, forming a regular rotation of 18 (assuming Mikel leaves):
-- Cech, Ivanovic, Ake, Ramires, Salah, Schurrle, Torres
-- good, good, 19, meh, meh, good, meh

And the youngsters behind that rotation? (because someone is going to get injured / suspended)
-- they're all out on loan (or will be again)

They had 8 defenders last season. Already sent 1 on loan (Kalas), lost 2 (Cole, Luiz - although I'm not sure you could call him a defender), and now they're left with 5. Of the remainder, Ake is 19 and Terry is 33 and certainly going to see more mistakes start to creep into his game.

Solid 14 players, but after that, I'm not sure. Of course, they could decide that some of their guys on loan could be ready, but looking at the list up there, there really isn't a slot of any of them to go into the regular 18 right now, except at CB. Unless they're that good that they could displace some of the incumbents.

If we buy a world class FB and somone to challenge Hendo in the middle we will be v.good.

It will be Mourinho's second season so he normally oftens delievers a title in that time
However, Terry will be older and Cahil is decent defender but limited.
I still think they made a mistake letting Cole go, Willian runs around a lot but does he really do a lot attacking wise?.
Hazard finished the season poorly and pissed off with Mourinho so how will he od?
Torres misses LFC
Costa looked pants and still recovering for injury over the worldcup.
Oscar looked pants in general for Brazil and seems to be a shadow of the former player.

I know I have over simplified it but not sure whether the Mourinho effect is that positive on that time and is over played, they had a team to win the league last season and CL yet still somehow blew it.

No guarantees re. Costa at all. Atletico played to his strengths, will Mourinho or will he be expected to adapt to their more counter-attacking style ?
Terry shouldn't be there as a starter ..... can he seriously last a season ? There were plenty of off-days for him the last.
Oscar faded badly, it remains to be seen if he reached a peak and dropped back or can regain the form he was in. Lots of creativity but not a lot of strength or leadership in that midfield.

Chelsea have a got a fantastic squad - that team looks great. Really well balanced. The only thing they're really missing is perhaps a replacement for Terry but I suppose Ivanovic can fill in.

Yeah. They also have Markovic as a secret agent as well.

They are trying a new tactic after just loaning players out.

We'll turn him. Chelsea is like Russia, its agents turn as soon as they get the hell out of there and realise how nice it is.

Lille boss Rene Girard insists that Divock Origi will be with the club next season, despite the Belgian striker expected to join Liverpool. The 19-year-old is understood to have been in advanced talks over a proposed £10 million switch to Anfield and reports have suggested that he would return to France on loan.
