They stop pushing for more than £20million for Lalalalallalalalalala because they know we're over paying £4-5million for Lambert, which is conveniently 25% of £20million.
So instead of paying 25 million for lalana and 4 for lambert, we pay 20 and 8? They'll still have to pay 5 or so million to southhampton instead of 6 and will end up with 23 or so million either way....

Like!!!!!

Liverpool are preparing a €25m bid for Alexis Sanchez. http://t.co/sDEz5lUbXv

'preparing'
lolz
We're also 'preparing' bids for Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo, Pogba, Thiago and Vidal. Wait till we 'unleash' them!

"Alexis is not a Barcelona player who is on the market," the Catalan club's president Josep Maria Bartomeu announced.
"He has a contract with us and that is the only thing that counts. He has had an excellent season for us.
"Obviously, he is part of our plans for next season. We have always wanted him here and he is a highly valued player at this club."

@BundesligaSpot: Kicker: Liverpool make offer for #FCBayern's Xherdan Shaqiri. Has been quoted saying England would be destination if he leaves Bayern. #LFC

Best way to describe Lambert is Sheringham lite.

Hes not just someone to boot the ball up to cause hassle like Grant Holt, Lambert can play football, hes technically sound, a good finisher and very sharp in the mind, he is one of those players that sees things early and is one step ahead in the mind, all that makes up for him having no pace very much like Sheringham.

He's not like Sheringham, and he does have some pace.

If I was pushed for a comparison, I'd say his playing style is akin to Shearer. Only nowhere near as good, obv.

Quite cuntish on Bournemouth, but none of our business.

I'm not sure if people make too much of a deal about the 25% thing though. It sounds like a huge number, but:

25% of
... 25m is 6.25m
... 20m is 5m
... 15m is 3.75m

So the difference between what they have to give Bournemouth from bracket to bracket is merely 1.25m. It's a big deal to Bournemouth of course, but for Southampton, is 1.25m really worth the aggro with Bournemouth and all the fuss? I think Southampton just wants to get the best price they can (can't fault them); the 25% sell on fee just becomes a convenient explanation for people to rationalize why they're asking for what they're asking for (allegedly).

Either way, 4mil is a fantastic deal in this day and age.

I know he's getting up there, but some loan fees are 2/3mil for a year.
If he doesn't work out, or preferably if we continue to improve and offload him, depending on when, we could get our money back.

Excellent signing.

But more relevant to Southampton is that the difference they pocket from bracket to bracket is s 3.75M.

I may be wrong but I doubt they are worried just because they don't like Bournemouth and want to minimize their income.

Well yeah that's actually the same point I'm trying to make. 😀

Some seem to suggest that Southampton's valuation is moving up because they have to take into consideration the fact that they have to pay back Bournemouth their 25% cut. Like you, I don't think that as the reason they're asking for more. They just want more money because, well, who doesn't want more money? The marginal difference they've got to pay Bournemouth is pretty insignificant in the grander scheme of things.

Along this same line of argument, some of the talk about us taking Lambert to lower the price of the Lallana deal and help them job Bournemouth seems misguided.

So we're in agreement. I think! 😀

Some news about some of our current or potential targets:

Ukrainian media report that Konoplyanka has agreed to stay in Dnipro at least until January after talking with the new manager Miron Markevich (former manager of Metallist Kharkiv).

According to Marca, Rakitic has signed a pre-transfer agreement with Atletico Madrid with a view to completing a transfer after the World Cup. Perhaps Koke will be sold to Barca and Rakitic will be his replacement.

Roma rejected the latest offer from Man City for Benatia (€22M).

Barca's president said Fabregas is not for sale.

we'll agree to agree then

Borussia Dortmund are finally close to securing the signing of Torino striker Ciro Immobile, according to reports in Italy. Torino andJuventus, who have joint-ownership of Immobile, have reportedly agreed a solution for the Italy international, who is expected to sign a four-year contract with Dortmund.

Roma have rejected a €22million (£17.9m) offer from Manchester City for defender Mehdi Benatia, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.Roma reportedly want €35million (£28.4m) before being in a position to consider selling Benatia. The Daily Express, meanwhile, claimsChelsea have hijacked City's move for Benatia after offering Roma £18m plus striker Romelu Lukaku.

Plenty of Tottenham speculation in the papers this morning following Mauricio Pochettino's appointment and The Shite reports the Argentine wants to raid former club Southampton for defender Dejan Lovren, who has also been linked with Liverpool. The Daily Mail flags up Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster as a possible replacement for Hugo Lloris, along with Tim Krul and David Marshall. The Times, meanwhile, says Erik Lamela will be part of Spurs' plans next season, but that the club feel they can get £30million for Paulinho amid reported interest from AC Milan, Chelsea and Roma in the Brazilian midfielder.

Could Jay Rodriguez be another Southampton player likely to leave the club this summer? Tottenham have today been trimmed from 3/1 to 2/1 to sign the forward in the next window. Liverpool are an 8/1 chance

Wow. Maybe it's really cheaper for FSG just to buy Southampton whole at this point. This way we'll get Shaw, Schneiderlin and Rodriguez as well as our current 3 targets and no further summer shopping will be necessary.

I remember a book from my childhood about the "fastest car in the world." This car was very proud and kind of arrogant to all the other (slower) cars, so they teamed up and one of them supplied the engine, another the wheels and so on – and in the end they created a car that was even faster than the fastest car in the world. I wonder if you put together the best parts from a 2nd-placed team and an 8th placed team, does it get you to first?

Rodriguez as well? May as well just take Southampton over and be done with it.

I'd be happy enough with any of the other players from there that we've been linked with (at the right price) but Rodriguez I'm not sure about. He gets a lot of praise, but he's never done that well when I've watched them. Any views?

An update on Liverpool's bid to sign Southampton striker Rickie Lambert. The England international is expected to undergo a medical on Saturday after Liverpool agreed a fee with Southampton. It is understood that Liverpool have offered between £8million and £10m for Lambert.

Whoa. £4 mill.is one thing, but 8-10 for a player his age?

Or maybe it's 4m going up to 8m or 10m, depending on the fulfillment of conditions (i.e. the add ons)? Sounds nicer for Southampton that way (i.e. spin to pacify their fans with the asset-stripping). I doubt FSG would sanction a 8m - 10m up front for a 32-year-old, even with the increased revenues.
