Transfer Rumours

Is di Maria really so much better than Sanchez? As in to the tune of £35m? Actually, Sanchez is almost certainly a better player, so either Arsenal got the bargain of the century or utd are about to pay massively, hugely, gargantuan-ly over the odds. Record breaking overpayment?

It's hard to know these days as deals like Luiz for 50M make it harder and harder to pin down a players true value. It does seem to be a case of whatever the buying club is willing to pay.

Di Maria is definitely overpriced at 70m (if that's what he's going for) but then you look at deals like Hulk to Zenit and think, well it could be worse.

Never heard of him ... and a 'prodigy' in Israel is like ... uuuh ... nothing worth getting excited about.

As for "Ohana," it's a common last name of Jews from Spanish/Moroccan ancestry. As for meaning - not really sure. @jimmy?

I searched and found two possible meaning of the name Ohana:
1. Someone who sells "Henna" (this is some paste that Jews from Muslim countries use to prepare and spread on the hands of the bride, groom and the guests in a ceremony which takes place before the actual wedding) - THE HENNA CEREMONY
2. Son of Hanna (a female's name). This is a bit odd, since it is more common that the father's name is used in family names.

I heard the name Michael Ohana, but know next to nothing about him.

ozil had better stats than di maria before joining arsenal, and di maria cost almost double of ozil?

Is di maria twice the player of ozil? I don't think so.

Neither do I. Di Maria at his best is a very good player and would never have been exactly cheap, but the sheer enormity of this fee is down to (a) ManU's lack of CL football this season and (b) the fact that they quite clearly have an inadequate squad at the moment, both of which will mean any clubs selling to them will know they're desperate to make big signings and will bump the fees up accordingly.

Back on the subject of players coming on trial, there were bits in the press recently about us taking Mathias Pinto for a week. He's a 16 year old winger who's already made his debut in the Chilean league (yes, really).

There are also fairly reliable twitter rumours that we could be ready to move for Leverkusen's 18 year old AM Julian Brandt.

Ozil was 40m, no?

Anyway, Utd are getting striped on all their deals - long may it continue.

Source please.

Di Maria takes their spending in the last 12 months to over 200 million pounds.

And they haven't got a defender or a midfielder worth a single fuck.

The fees (add-on included) quoted for di maria is almost the double of ozil (made 26 assists in his last season with real madrid).

Anyway, I hope scums don't have to pay real madrid for the add-on (if you know what I mean)

I have just noticed how many of you shoddy cunts havnt got a capital letter at the start of your usernames.
Sort it out you little letter cockends.

Ha. It's simply brilliant how ineffectual their buying has been.

Moyes was simply too shitscared to replace anyone, & it seems Van Gaal is more interested in making statements with flair players than creating a solid balanced team. Of course that could change, one strong ball carrying centreback & a central midfielder who can move the ball & link the defence to attack would make them a damn sight better.

Never seen him play but very highly rated kid ... Chelsea tried to sign him but he (smartly) stayed in Germany.

Right so. I've seen some clips and he looks a bit like your typical German winger to me: all pace and athleticism allied to sound technique, rather than tricks and quick feet. He certainly must be doing something right if he's commanding so much attention and got minutes for Leverkusen at 17.

We've also been heavily linked to Patrick Roberts of Fulham and even tentatively to Martin Odegaard, that 15 year old Norwegian prodigy. It's a bit hard to know what to make of it all, really. These are all bona fide world class prospects, but I can't help but wish some of them were strikers, or central midfielders, or centre halves!

How many insanely good 15-18 year old wingers/AMs can we really support??

We haven't done so well when we do buy defenders young and try to develop them. Maybe it's better to let those ripen a bit before scouting them out.

Yeah, defenders I tend to agree with. And I've got no real problem with us going for 2 or 3 more AM prodigies, because I think my overriding principle would be that if you can get in players of such vast potential in whatever position then you should, and worry about how it all fits together later.

I just kind of wish the prodigies were spread a bit more across the front six positions.

Leicester boss Nigel Pearson believes the club have a good chance of securing former Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso and hopes the Argentina international will be signed before the Foxes host Arsenal in the Premier League next Sunday.
Cambiasso is still a possibility. There's been progress over the weekend so I'm more hopeful than I was on Friday and Saturday but until there is a definitive answer I'm loath to talk too much.

Shame about him. I liked the look of him when he initially joined the first team squad, but he just hasn't kicked on from there.

I'd sanction it. With a buyback clause.

I thought you didn't rate him? I'd rather a sell-on clause though, as you know QPR will get relegated this season or next, and if he impresses enough, he'll get a move to another club in the league.

In the next few seasons, we've got Moreno, Flanagan, possibly McLaughlin - if he can stay healthy - and maybe even Smith available for the LB spot (though Smith has the shittest luck with injuries). Unless he has a couple of outstanding seasons, it's hard to see how he's going to be able to earn a return trip.
