Transfer Rumours

This is the feeling amongst United fans :

Very pleased United have spent so much on Di Maria. Supposedly two more transfers for them to come next week, rumoured to be Blind and De Jong.

I watched a game in the WC where Di Maria played and he was fucking woeful. More learned souls on here will probably tell me otherwise but £60mill for him??? Ha ha! At least he's someone I have heard of so that is something I suppose. Seems awfully pricey though. I wonder what @ChastenedMUFC thinks of this?

Interesting.

I watched a couple of games with him in the WC and I thought he was by far the best player on the pitch - including Messi. He was bloody amazing - not convinced by 60m amazing but still amazing.

He was a constant threat for Madrid last season; he's pricey but he's a sensational player. He may not be the number one priority of what the mancs need but he is still a player they need. If they can get him now then that's what they should do. Di Maria, Rooney, Mata and RVN makes an intimidating front line in anybody's language. To get the best out of him, though, they need to get the other end of the pitch sorted out - that defence is not going to get them in the top 4 no matter how good Di Maria is and he's not going to be the one carrying it from the CB's either. There's a massive chasm between the keeper and that front line which will render them useless without some serious surgery.

How do they line up then? 3-5-2 and waste Di Maria or 4-3-3 and waste Rojo, and two of Mata, RVP, and Rooney?

LOL it'll be funny watching this all go tits up.

I don't think it's going to go tits up. For all his arrogance and the fawning over him by the media, Van Gaal is pretty switched on as a manager. He'll use them fairly well.

That said, the players he's bought in don't compliment what he already had; what united needed after last season and no CL football was for the sum of the parts to be greater than the individual quality. Instead the reverse looks likely to be true.

They've got some great individual players and Van Gaal will do his best but they are way out of balance just now. Their right side needs massive strengthening and the centre of their backline is a disaster.

Theirs plenty of sexy talent up front but they don't have the quality behind them to allow them to shine. The media will look at the team sheet and say with all that quality they shouldn't be losing to the Swansea's of the world. That's going to, hopefully, put plenty of pressure on them as well.

Di Maria can play in the midfield three as he did for Real last season.

You watched more of that than me, Keni but I didn't really think he was effective there. He did damage when he moved out to the left during matches - otherwise they seemed to have his number.

There's no getting away from it, there's no way of squeezing their big players into one formation. They're going to have at least 2 great attacking players on the bench every game, which is fine in itself, but not when you've got dross actually starting in other areas of the pitch.

It's just a simple waste of resources.

I still cant believe they are going to pay 65 mill for him.
And give him a rumoured 300k a week. He said no to Reals contract and apparantly wanted a hugh weekly wage.

Wiz he was brilliant in the three. Really really good. He got rave reviews there

Even if they paid the stupid money for hummels or vidal, it would make sense because at least they are what they need

Di Maria can play where Sneijder does in the 3-5-2 I guess.

Sneijder's wife just nominated LvG for the ice bucket challenge by the way. She is lovely.

The comparison I would personally make is Pogba. Quoted at that same price, exactly what they need, absolutely brilliant player (better than Di Maria IMO) and just 21 years old.

Either way, a dominant CM is what they need

And the best of it is there's no way under The Lying Rag that he'll ever go back there.

Di Maria was offered to City asweell earlier this summer and he wanted to go there, but they rejected the deal.

I hope they sign Di Maria for a fortune - fail to qualify for Champions League for a second season - and Di Maria leads the charge to "leave for a team that offers Champions League football".
