Transfer Rumours

I'd agree. But that probably says more about Bale than Shaw.

Shaw looks a good player who will only get better. He'll probably fill your LB slot for years.

I'd agree with that. Think he is an really good signing for us. Better defensively than offensively so never going to be Bale

...the Reds are set to offer big bucks to sign Anderlecht wonderkid Aleksandr Mitrovic. He will cost around 10 million euros according to The Metro and has been dubbed the 'new Zlatan.'

Talksport running an 'exclusive' that Eto'o having a medical for us outside of Uk today...
Sources reporting he's undergoing a medical for us right now. I haven't seen anything claiming otherwise.

Also stuff about Borini and Sunderland resurfacing. Might be him gone then.

@ChastenedMUFC can you tell me why United are pushing Welbeck out of the club? It seems a mad decision to me, a local lad who's been there years, would give anything for the club, and is happy to be a squad member, he's exactly the kind of player you need to keep when you're in a rough place as you guys are. I'm convinced there's still a very good player in Welbeck, so I hope Everton don't get him as rumoured.

I don't think average tryers are what Utd need to return them to the pinnacle of English football. Welbeck is destined for midtable mediocrity and Utd would be best not to waste any more minutes on him.

Not sure why and would prefer if he was kept around.

However maybe LVG has told him we won't get many games and is behind Rooney, Mata, RVP, Kagawa and Januzaj in the pecking order. And to be honest bar Kagawa I couldn't really disagree with that order.

We also have Wilson coming though. He is one of best prospects I have seen coming through the system in quite some time. I would be absolutely shocked if this time next year he isn't fairly regular on the bench and getting minutes.

The rumours seem to be that we are going to send Welbeck out on loan rather than sell him. Atleast that way there is the chance if he does well he could come back and stake a claim on starting spot. All alot of time for older players it can be more of a shop window than anything else.

I think I've said it before on here that I'm never really keen on players leaving. Would much rather have them as backup than not all.

However LVG has said he wants to work with just a 22 man squad plus youngsters. Seems a little light to me but if we are going to trim it anywhere it will be the forwards as midfield and defense looks light as it is.

there's a road by mine called welbeck. i spit on the fucking floor every time i walk past it.

That makes no sense at all. The man's been a regular in the United team for a couple of seasons and is an England regular too. What would playing at Hull or another mid-table team prove ? Nothing you don't already know. The only reason for letting him go on loan that I can see is that he is not going to get many minutes this season but if you are back in the Europa League next then you'll need a deeper squad and will have him back. Much better he gets regular football than just sitting on a bench.

I think the biggest positive about the way we're doing transfers nowadays and the way the scum is doing them is that we're signing really good players and worrying about the consequences later which they did for a long time. Meanwhile they're like we were for years, pursuing lots of slightly above average players for a constantly changing system.

There's a lot to be said for just signing really skillful players that can change games. For the scum, the star is always going to be Gaal.

Welbeck is like Utds version of Heskey, hes not the most talented player around but hes honest and will work his socks off, assuming hes on reasonable wages hes not a bad player to have in the squad. I suppose they need to free up wages/squad places if VanGaal is going to bring in his own targets but I could think of 3 or 4 players in that squad Id sell before Welbeck

Same as that, but we don't know if he is leaving yet and we don't know who/if someone is coming in to replace him.

Never thought I'd see so much love for Welbeck in here.

Our last 4 signings have been Herrera, Shaw, Rojo and Mata. I struggle to see how anyone could call Mata or Shaw average. Herrera and Rojo I think will be very good signings for us particularly Herrera who I think will surprise a lot of people by the end of the season.

Have we over paid for some of those signings?
Of course, but who cares if they fill a hole in the squad.
It isnt my money and I'd rather it spent on players than going into the Glazers pocket.

We are still a top quality CM, plus maybe an extra CB, away from challenging from 4th, but if we can bring them in I will be very happy with this window.

Mata - class, but still to be proven as suiting the system at United. Shaw - very young and last season was his 'break-out' season, like our Manquillo and especially Moreno, still to show he can cut it at a top club and continue his improvement, signs are good though. Herrera - looked good in pre-season, but then he had a lot more time on the ball as he received in Spain, not a good sign he was subbed off in his first PL match (unless he was injured ? I didn't hear anything). Rojo - not a top class player but something you needed, a good utility player (CB, LB, WB).

Definitely agree on you needing a high quality CB and CM. I don't think it's going to be Vidal (despite your very low offer) and Strootman in January (at best and returning from a major injury) could be too late to save your season.

Mata and Shaw are above average. Slightly. We've signed players like them for 20 years. They'll put you in contention for fourth.

There's a really good player inside welbeck?

Fuck, I'd cut Welbeck open to get the poor fucker out.

Welbeck is slightly above average, & nowhere near the standard I'd expect from Utd. I hope they keep him forever.

Agree Mata hasn't been as good for us yet as he has for Chelsea.
But played out of position, under Moyes he managed something like 6 goals and 7 assists in about 15 games.

Herrera was injured, won't be playing this weekend but should be back after that.

If he we can get Strootman in January I would wait. Yes it probably means we miss top 4 this season but would put us in a very strong position with midfield finally sorted after years of mediocrity.

Mata is just slightly above average?? One of the leagues best midfielders in the last few seasons.

What player have you signed this window who is better than Mata?

Mata was excellent for Chelsea but he didn't reach those heights for you. That may not have been all his fault, but you can't just leave last season out of the reckoning here.

He got a 6 goals and 7 assists for us last season in 15 games. Not unbelievable but not bad either.

We'll get top 4 if we sign some quality players yayayaya change the fucking record.

Not saying we will get just that we will challenge.

Long term I think FFP came in just in time for us to have a little decline as over the next few years the big spends in the league will be us, Arsenal and ye. City and Chelsea to a lesser extent will have their wings cut.

Mata is still a level above Coutinho - but our little Maestro is closing fast and IMHO is capable of a higher level, he simply has the vision.

Mata is a good player, no doubt. But it seems he's declined a bit since his fantastic season at Chelsea.
He'll have a good season for you.
Herrera is a decent player. Not the best but a decent player. As Scholes said he should be in addition to someone else. He wont improve the midfield that much on his own.
Shaw could become a very good player. He's good now but I'd be concerned about his committment and attitude.
That could stop him from becoming very good.
Rojo. Again a decent player but not great. Improves the options and gets you a LCB. Better than what you had last season? No

All in all, a shitload of money on players that make you marginally better. Still an unbalanced squad but if RVP and Rooney are injury free you'll be up there for 4th. Thats a big if mind.

There's no denying Mata is a quality player but the fact is I'm binning him out of my fantasy football team this week and I'm leaving Coutinho in..... Can't argue with those facts....
