Transfer Rumours

@MrBoywunder: Guardian - Brighton manager, Sami Hyypia, hopes to return to his former club, #LFC, to sign Jack Robinson on loan for the campaign ahead.

How shite a signing was javi garcia, didn't they want someone awesome at the time but ended up with him? Van persie or hazard, someone like that.

Could mean anything though. Lucas is weird

Apparently it does mean he's leaving.

[article=http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/liverpools-lucas-leiva-edges-closer-to-reunion-with-rafa-benitez-at-napoli-9659518.html]Liverpool's Lucas Leiva edges closer to reunion with Rafa Benitez at Napoli

Ian Herbert

Liverpool's Lucas Leiva is hopeful that he will join Napoli, reuniting him with his former Reds manager Rafael Benitez.

The Independent on Sunday understands that there are a number of obstacles for the Italian side still to clear before the 27-year-old makes a move to Stadio San Paolo, but the player tweeted an enigmatic picture yesterday (sat) afternoon depicting light at the end of a tunnel – which appeared to suggested that he feels that Benitez will now offer him the new start he craves.

Napoli remain in communication with Manchester United about the possibility of securing Marouane Fellaini on loan. But with three weeks of the transfer window still to run and Fellaini’s £100,000-a-week United salary at a level Napoli could not meet in its entirety, Lucas seems the more likely signing for Benitez.

Lucas is certainly keen to move on now from Anfield, where Benitez signed him from Gremio in 2007 but where he only started 20 games in the 2014/14 and a mere five in this calendar year.

He was devastated that his disappearance from the Liverpool starting XI after the turn of the year led to his omission from this summer’s Brazil World Cup squad and feels he has stagnated. The Brazilian accepts that Steven Gerrard's transition into deep lying midfielder has rendered him redundant on Merseyside, with Joe Allen also emerging as another contender for the deeper lying midfield role as last season wore on. Liverpool are willing to sell Lucas – a hugely popular player with the club’s fans – so bringing the player’s personal struggle to a close.[/article]

What DID happen to Lucas a few months ago (apart from 'he got even more shit' and various other observations)? He removed all reference to LFC from his twitter account, he now only posts in Portuguese and he's also snubbing interviews. Did I miss something? Did Rodgers tell his 'disciple' he's actually crap and a pariah? He used to be such a happy little chap, even when he was out of the team.

He got some abuse on twitter. Got fed up and almost closed his account.

Ah, thanks. Still seems a bit odd he's continued to cut all connections with the club. It's not as if Brazil want him, either.

Maybe that was the problem - maybe he was under the impression that, when he finally got back to full fitness he'd be the lynchpin in the side (especially given the way Rodgers spoke about him when he started here) but then Gerrard was moved back and realistically Lucas was not going to dislodge him. That probably coincided with the only chance Lucas had to get into the Brazil squad for the World Cup in his home country (ie playing regularly for the last few months of the season, a long shot admittedly) and so he might have felt a bit down in the dumps.

He can't not have been aware of the low esteem a proportion of the fanbase hold him in, and may well have felt that it would all be worth it in the end because the manager rated him highly and wanted him in the pivot role. But then Gerrard gets moved back and Lucas realises he'd only be a squad player.

Yeah, bring back Shelvey.

Speaking of Shelvey... They play Manure in their first game... If I was a lizard I'd be offering him a million quid to end RvPs career, thus ending their season before it starts.

Do you think he would also have been thinking he'd get a call up to the World Cup? Tough few months for him losing a starting place in the team and then missing out on Brazil... and then seeing us buy more midfielders... and then sell his best mate Luis..

I wouldn't be surprised if he has some of his entourage encouraging this behaviour though..

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is ready to wield the axe at White Hart Lane, with seven players needing to be trimmed from his squad. Pochettino has 32 senior players on his books, but can only select 25 for the 2014/15 campaign.
We currently have 32 players so we need to be clinical in our selection.

Chelsea winger Marko Marin is undergoing a medical with Fiorentina with a view to joining the Serie A club on a season-long loan.

Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori was recently linked with a loan move to Borussia Dortmund, but he could now be on his way to France.According to L'Equipe, Bordeaux are interested in signing Ilori on a season-long loan and are also hoping to bring in Diego Contento from Bayern Munich.

Ajax defender Daley Blind says he's aware of links to Manchester United and would consider a move to the Premier League, but for the moment he's happy in Holland.

Marcos Rojo is reluctant to speculate on his future as reports continue to link him with a move away from Sporting Lisbon. The Argentina international is said to have attracted interest from Southampton, Liverpool and Napoli.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists there is no pressure on striker Rickie Lambert despite not scoring a goal during pre-season. The 32-year old England international joined Liverpool fromSouthampton this summer and has so far failed to find the net in any of the club's pre-season friendlies.
There is no need for him to be under any pressure, he needs to come in at 32 years of age and contribute to the history of this club.

Has Van Gaal actually signed anyone yet? Shaw and Herrera were signed before he took over, the rest seem like a load of rumours that haven't much legs.

He's obviously going to have them playing a lot better without many signings, but you'd think he'd actually make at least one signing.*

*I'm probably forgetting someone they have signed...

United won't have signed anyone without LvG's explicit approval. I think they signed some 3rd backup Gk or something but certainly no other squad players.

Oh, I'm sure. But both were in place, or at least were rumoured a long time time before he took over. He hasn't seemed to have had much influence in actually getting anyone in, despite the hundreds of rumours.
