Transfer rumours

You aren't though, really.

And setting aside the fact that I'm crediting you with a decent grasp of probability, surely you can see the difference between expectation as concerns the lottery (which you have no control over), and this.

One makes someone an optimist, the other makes someone an idiot.

It was an extreme example. The whole “expecting a bid” is bollocks. There must have been talks ahead of expecting a bid. They can’t just be sat there expecting Liverpool to give them a ring and placing a bid. The phrase should be “initial discussion have taken place” not expecting a bid.

I mean, I don't believe anything printed today, but for the sake of whiling away the hours before death -- and because I don't want to write nonsense about nanobots for 10 year olds even though I'm being paid to do it-- what if the initial discussions culminated in someone saying, hey, this all sounds good, we will be back to you with a bid?

It’ll still be initial talks. Availability, potential fees and the likes would’ve been discussed. Expecting a bid, to me, sounds like they’ve finished training and sitting off in the office waiting for the fax machine to spit out an offer without any prior talks.

I'm not panicking too much, I remember everyone going overboard when they got Ndombele this summer, who seems to have struggled to impose himself.
Ndombele looked like a great signing and he's potentially Spurs best player but has struggled, not only with injuries but to adapt to Britain; his English is terrible, he's being living on junk food (apparently Spurs have him on a restricted diet now although not sure how they can police that) and he seems quite overwhelmed by the London lifestyle - maybe a stint up in Liverpool would do him the world of good.

Apparently he's due back in action anytime now and might make the bench against City.

Transfer window and especially deadline day just not the same since Redknapp packed it in.

Overwhelmed? He's a dozy twat with no impulse control, and he certainly looked heavy to me when I saw him play recently.

Mourinho will get shut

The way they talked him up before and during the transfer sounded a bit desperate all along. I got the impression they were trying to convince themselves as much as anyone else.

From the Beeb:

Manchester United are growing increasingly confident of signing a striker on loan before the 11pm transfer deadline.
United have been heavily linked with Bournemouth’s Joshua King and former Watford front-man Odion Ighalo today.
It was understood earlier this evening that United had accepted the chances of landing King were slim.
However, they were still talking to alternative options and, whilst there is no deal done, or any suggestion an announcement is imminent, there is a growing feeling United will reach a successful conclusion.

How can either of those be considered a successful conclusion?

I suppose it would be an improvement on their current striker, who is nobody

The winger West Ham just bought from Hull seems a bit interesting. Been scoring for fun in the championship.

Jordon Rhodes also scored a shit load in the championship
As did Nahki Wells, Patrick Bamford, Tom Ince etc the list goes on.

Let's see if this kid is any different.

You have a point regarding Rhodes, but he was an out an out striker. Wells, Ince and Bamford had one maybe two good season in the championship scoring wise but this guy Bowen has scored 14, 22 and now 16 (29 apps) goals in the championship in the last 3 seasons and he's only 23.
Mind you I know almost nothing about him, but from what I've seen on youtube, he seems to be a pretty decent finisher.
Like I said, "interesting"...

I think Villa scored the best deal, this Samatta lad is quality and should have cost a lot more than 8.5M given how many teams were desperate for a striker.
