EVERTON TARGET CARRAGHER SIGNING

Premier League side Everton are weighing up a move for James Carragher - former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher’s son. The 18-year-old defender plays for Wigan on a scholarship deal and impressed Everton in an academy match earlier this season. They are keen on signing him to his first professional deal this summer to move him into their under-23s, according to the Telegraph.

When I was first read that, thought was manager and was going to lead to Andy Gray type rejection like in early 90s.

I don’t think swaps work for the club accounts anymore do they which is why they get avoided? You get to book the transfer income immediately, and spread the fee over the life of the contract

No, swaps are great for the accounts. Both clubs falsely inflate the player values, book higher profits on the sale leg and meet FFP. It’s what happened with the swap deal for Arthur / Pjanic last year between Barca and Juve. Barca reported a big profit on sale and sold the inflated receivable due from Juve to boost their year end cash position. Juve just got a big profit on sale.
The only downside is increased transfer levy / solidarity payments, but if you can avoid FFP sanctions then you’d probably be prepared to live with that (only 5% of the inflation in value).
Clubs unlikely to be paying tax on the extra profit due to losses or deferral mechanisms.

They’re not booked as swaps though are they, they’re reported in the finances as separate transfers with massively inflated fees?

Correct. But if they were separate transactions then they would be valued properly, so there’d be lower profits in both sets of books. As a buyer, you wouldn’t agree to inflate the value of your purchase unless you could guarantee getting the money back via another inflated deal with the same party, ergo a swap. There’s also potentially a tax advantage for clubs that are US-owned, but that’s unlikely to be a driver in most cases.

Rumours that we've started talking to Fiorentina about Vlahovic, but as a contigency plan for other attacking targets. Vlahovic is said to have some reservations about moving given how other Serbian players have fared at Liverpool.

And coaches.

Wow - the last big signing from Athleti was Javi Martinez ...
Now they have some dosh to replace him with Keita :-(

Javi Martinez came from Athletic Bilbao.

But yeah, this could fund Atletico's move for Keita if there's any genuine interest.

A while back I suggested we might consider a swap deal for a player, and was rounded on by somehere claiming that it would never happen..Now we find it already has in the pass, and those same people who were against it are now pushing the same idea...

People 🙄

If Villa keep Grealish, with the sort of signings they are making, they can overtake Everton and Spurs in the next few years.

I think that most teams in PL can afford 30M per season spend on transfers. Villa are not that poor, and shit when that players rankings and stats came up i thought ....hmmmm....could be good for LFC, but looks like someone has already beaten us to it. I actually think we should go to south america and sign an unknown and hope they turn into a worldy....Really want that guy from Leed as backup to Bobby. Just need to do that or find someone like him for 7M

Raphinha plays more on the wings. You should check out Daichi Kamada, he is a Japanese International plays as an attacking MF but unlike minamino he is over 6ft tall.
