Transfer Rumours 21/22

Is Gerrard buying too many players too quickly? They all seem like decent buys, but by the time they all gel Stevie might be gone and his replacement will benefit…
It’s a typical British football response to setbacks.

Seems a decent price for Sarr. He's always looked a decent player who might kick on to a really high level one day.

Not convinced be solves any of Villas problems right now, though. They can't defend and get overrun in the middle of the park.

They’re selling him at a loss, no? I seem to recall they bought him for 30m or so.

Gerrard does seem to be buying and hoping something sticks. How much has he spent there already?

The good news for villa is when they sack Gerrard and get a decent coach in the next few weeks, he'll leave them a much better squad.

More than Jurgen - AND HE’S SIGNED MIDFIELDERS!!!!!!

Utd trying to sign Antony for 100 mill. Insane. 100. Mill.
But the Glazers and lack of funds are the problem for the lack of success apparently.

apparently the viable takeover bid his loosened the purse strings because the glazers fear the fan pressure and protest to sell

Just like Everton, I think soon Manc fans will communicate transfer targets and manager recommendations to Glazers by scribbling on Old Trafford walls.

It’s £40 million over two seasons. Not that is matters much.

City have a similar net spend this window too. I think. I’m probably wrong.

He's buying his way out of trouble. It's not a good look. He has Ings, Watkins, Bailey, Buendia, Coutinho, Archer all fighting for a spot in his front three/four. Would adding Sarr make a difference, beyond the new signing bounce?

It may be an issue of coaching / tactics rather than personnel.
That's my feeling. The signs aren't good for Stevie. To be honest, he never seemed especially bright and I haven't seen anything during his time as a manager that makes me think any different. Replacing Coutinho with Nakamba at 70 minutes against City last season, when he'd been dictating Villa's attacking play and had just scored a wonder goal to put them two up, was like tactical self-immolation.

He's certainly got a long way to go to prove himself capable at this level.

[article]Real Madrid will use the money from Casemiro's sale to Manchester United to pursue a deal for Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham, 19. (Marca - in Spanish)[/article]

That's a relief, if he was still available next summer FSG would have to concoct some bullshit reason why we don't need him and should just renew Milners contract for another 12 months while we wait for Curtis to come good.

We're wasting the best years of generational talent VVD and world class talent in Salah.

If we had a KDB type that could defend, press, run with the ball and make a quality final pass/shot, we'd be pretty much complete.

But alas, we're toiling with AOC, Keita, Hendo and Milner still.

United are outchea crying and protesting about only being able to waste 1 billion in the transfer market. Imagine if Klopp had that to spend on a squad. We'd be competing for the quadruple every year.

Who'd have thought that Real would end up being the sensible ones back in the day?

They still spend big money obviously but primarily on young talent.

Camavinga, Tchouameni and Bellingham in the space of 12 months would refresh their midfield for another decade. But what do we know, the right players just aren't 'available'

Yes. 1 PL title and 1 CL is simply not good enough for their level of talent and the manager we have.

Had we simply had another top player or so, and just gone that extra mile to back Jurgen, we'd be looking at 2-3 PLs and 2-3 CL titles.

It's weird to say that this team has underperformed....but it has. It's better than 1cl, 1 league, an FA cup and league cup

Maybe Mo needs to look at himself for not winning more. A nutmeg against Pickford and scoring the 4th against Brentford would’ve given him 3 league titles.

Saying wasted is bonkers in my opinion. Probably getting into entitlement territory.

We helped them get so close to winning titles and we aren’t in a normal time. Look who we are against. If it wasn’t for us the league would be shit.

The isn't about specific players. This is about the ownership not fully backing our best manager in PL history.

We're also wasting the limited time we have with Jurgen too. He's not going to be here forever. And he can't be picking gems all the time and working with one hand tied behind his back.

Sure, I'm enjoying the ride with Jurgen. But getting so close all the time, only to fail at the final hurdle by a point here or there. This is where the finer details matter and you need options from the bench. City had the likes of Jesus and Zinchenko to bring on. And we're actually seeing how good these guys actually were. And they could barely make the lineup. We're still toiling with AOC, Milner and Keita. There are levels to this football malarkey. These guys are not at the required level anymore. And I'm not just talking a one off game. I'm talking consistency-wise.

Hell, even letting go of Mane due to wages, whilst he still was world class and could contribute, is a failure of the board.

Oh no doubt it's the worst timing ever for us. Takes 30 years to build a team which could win a few leagues, and we're against arguably the best pl team ever.

I don't think it's unrealistic to say we've underachieved. How many finals where we've not won now? 3 at least?

I think certainly in the two CL finals against Real we will always look back and think "what if?" for various reasons. Same as with '07 final to a degree.

The league is a tough one. City are just a fucking machine... so it's always going to be a coin toss as to who gets it.

The fine margins of the leagues we've lost by 1-2 points is painful, and the CL finals in recent years. No doubt this is the greatest team most of us have watched in our lifetimes, we can only hope the team's transition is also great. Whilst we have some players who are now on the wrong side of their peaks (Salah, Hendo, VVD) we have some great players yet to peak (Konate, Trent, Fabinho, Jota, Diaz etc).

On paper the signing of Thiago should have been a short term midfield boost to maximise VVD/Salah in their peak but his injuries meant that we were too often reliant on those not up standard.
