Transfer Rumours 21/22

I absolutely loving this conversation for those that realize "what could have been" with those that seem satisfied or rather thankful we have won what we have. Yes we are all happy with our lot, but I think ultimately we know we could do so much more and win so much more had we the right midfielders and spent that extra 30M when needed. Especially with this manager.

This is pretty obviously on the ownership and the board. The margins are fine, and we still insist on operating on a far lower budget than most of our rivals.

I mean let's not forget we refused to sign a CB despite season ending injuries to both van Dijk and Gomez. This is after going into the season with just 3 senior CBs after selling Lovren. It took an injury to Matip for us to be forced to sign emergency CBs on the very last day of the transfer window.

The midfield situation is beginning to resemble that, and we're still standing pat. This is despite the fact that we were told for the best part of a year that our priority this summer would be a new midfielder.

The Diaz signing was also 6 months too late. It took an incredible 19 game unbeaten run in the second half of the season after we'd strengthened the squad with Diaz that we could come within a point of City.

As it stands, we're pretty much wasting this year as the likes of van Dijk, Matip, Salah, Thiago, Alisson, Fabinho all lose another year of their prime.

We are overstocked with players who are hardly ever available. That’s one of the big problems.

That's been a problem for a long time under Klopp and with frequent regularity. I heard that Adam Lallana made it through 60+ mins of a game, and that's his second consecutive game for Brighton. If he does 10 in a row, I will start to question if Klopp and the Coaching team actually butt fuck our players during training and that is the real reason why so many are on the treatment table.

There’s that wasting word again. All these players and managers can’t feel like they are wasting as they have signed new deals over the last 18 months. If they were wasting then they’d go somewhere that their talents aren’t wasted.

We have a finite budget. You want boss players, then you have to pay them boss wages. If you want 20 boss players on boss wages then get an oil state to buy the club and say fuck the rules. We aren’t so can’t just start pulling £40-50 million players off the bench.

The value of the club has gone up massively. That doesn’t change the cash we have to spend. Getting loans from the bank didn’t go too well last time. So we spend what we have.

Keita hasn’t delivered and is always dead. Same for oxlade chamberlain and I’ll never understand why he got another contract. Thiago, as talented as he is, can’t be relied on. Had we sold any of those over the summer then we would’ve bought another player. That’s the waste.

Exactly. We'll look back with a bit of regret unfortunately.

Ultimately it's down to personal opinion but I feel that had we invested in 2 additional high quality players over the last 3/4 years, we'd have won one more title and one more CL.

That would have ensured the legacy this team deserves. With 1 title and 1 CL over 5 seasons or so, I don't think they'll get it unfortunately.

We're definitely wasting this opportunity a bit.

Klopp is a one off. VVD is a one off, so is Salah probably. They'll all be gone in 5 years.

If the owners had done everything I think they could have, I'd be happy to shrug and write it off to luck. But anyone who believes that is a fucking sap.

Well this is just depressing..

I think yesterday proved plenty of teams will get at city this season, were going through growing pains ourselves but we will get better. Just need the first team squad to stay fit , survive burn out from the world cup and away we go!

I think certainly in the two CL finals against Real we will always look back and think "what if?" for various reasons. Same as with '07 final to a degree.

The league is a tough one. City are just a fucking machine... so it's always going to be a coin toss as to who gets it.
With a toin coss, you'd expect it to be 50-50 right?

But we've lost 2 titles by a point. If we had won 1 of those 2 titles, you'd say it was a fair reflection of our battles with City over the last 5 year. 3 to them, 2 to us. But it's 4-1 them.

Hell, the first title we lost, do people realise that had we beaten City at the Etihad that year, we'd have got 100pts, won the league and been Invincible. It was our only loss. That was peak VVD/Salah/Mane/Fab/TAA/Robbo/Alli. They were all incredible that season. But were let down by moments when others had to come in and step up, and didn't.

When it mattered, against City, when Matip got injured, we had to go with Lovren. And Aguero beat him at the near post for the opener.

Again, last season, when we weren't at 100%, it was games against Brighton or Chelsea at home where we looked to the bench for midfield reinforcements, and instead of having quality like Diaz+Jota to bring on in that position, we had AOC, Keita, Millie, etc who just aren't game winners.

These type of games City just about edge, because their first team aren't always on top form, but they were able to call on the likes of Sterling, Gundogan, Mahrez, Foden, Jesus, Zinchenko et al who were able to get them over the line in tight matches by the odd goal.

Our owners have done an OK job overall, but there's no doubt, we could have won more with the players/manager we have/had.

That’s £150 million worth of talent to call off the bench. We don’t have that luxury.

Had we beaten city in any of the runners up seasons we’d have won the league. It wasn’t to be. No point grumbling about it. Live in the moment and see where we end up.

Statistically that makes no sense at all - you think that had one title gone our way then that would be 'fair'? If it were over 100 years perhaps and even then maybe not. I've seen a roulette wheel ball (perfectly balanced before we opened the table) land Red x17 times on the bounce ! And no a coin flip isn't actually 50/50, it's 51/49 so does that explain the 4-1 to City?

A case can be made that City's greater depth actually enabled them to keep up with US (not vice versa) or edge us by 1 point or that in fact it all comes down to luck in the end, a bounce of a ball here, a decision there. It's actually impossible to call because of the many many variables in football, as is saying one more player (who may not have contributed in the way you anticipated) would have made the difference, maybe we'd have been 10 points behind with that one extra player. Maybe he would have made the difference.

The point I'm making is it's all conjecture, no-one knows if it would have made a difference or not. We could have won more or less in fact, maybe we wouldn't have overturned Barca or won a match on penalties or whatever. Would I have liked to have that extra player? Sure, of course, but it doesn't follow that it would definitely have made a difference. For me luck has a far greater influence than most give her credit for.

This is exactly why I have had a mental fit as to why we have not signed a midfielder. That fella that's gone to Wolves, fucking he'll how the fuck is he not the right play ? We just soldier on with an unreliable set of midfielders season after season.

Be frustrated but know a forum is only there to express thoughts and opinions it has no bearing on how the club is run. I am now hoping we sign Danilo dos Santos de Oliveira who looks peak Paul Pogba-esk, If you're asking me if they're as any link, no there isn't, its just wishful thinking

Nope! I know me saying it doesn't make it happen. We need someone like Luis Paqueto who could do an AM and CM role and a RW like Sarr who is still available.
Sarr going to villa so how is he available, and he is like 25M, which is unatainable for us

It feels like the transfer committee is still waiting for Michael Edwards to tell them what to do.

There is no more Edwards. Wake up.

It’s an end of an era and we all better get accustomed to it pronto. I reckon 10 years minimum of Diaos, Koncheskys, Downings, etc, until we find the next Klopp.

Bizarre move by Chelsea, this.
He simply isn't a £60M player.
Their fans are underwhelmed, to say the least.
Hope his career stagnates there, the diving wee shite.

Agree about Gallagher.

Havertz has been a flop at Chelsea. But then again every striker they’ve bought have been shite in recent years.
