Transfer Rumours 21/22

I think he's the best of the options available to be honest. I don't see a stand out candidate otherwise. Lautaro Martinez perhaps? But there's something about him that doesn't make me think he's a Liverpool player.

Re: Nunez, he doesn't have to have the first touch of Berbatov to be a good player. That combination of pace, athleticism and work rate is kind of a guarantee of a certain level of end product. If there are holes in his game, I will trust Klopp to sort them out.
But isn't his work rate part of the issue? Maybe I'm remembering his stats wrong - I'll have to check Binny's posts - but I'm sure there was a major red flag in there somewhere.

It's not like Mane has a great touch anyway. The ball bounces off him at all angles.

Mane played about 10% of his entire Liverpool career as a striker though. We’re not replacing him like for like. Diaz will be our starting left forward replacing him.
Our new nr 9 must have some of Bobbys skill set I think, but with more goals.

All depends on how Klopp sees us setting up the future.

The fbref stats seem to suggest that he's pretty good at pressures, tackles and interceptions.

There's also this thread which is quite informative. Direct comparison with Haaland with the conclusion that Nunez is significantly better at progressive passes, progressive carries and defensive workrate.

All these stats keep giving me horrible flashbacks to the YouTube video people kept sharing when we were linked to Benteke.

People say he's lazy, but here's a clip of him tackling someone. People say he can't dribble but here's a clip of him going past someone...etc.

Ah well…. If we can spend £60m+ on Keita, then maybe we can afford to finally sign a decent Nunez.

I had hopes for him based on the clips I'd seen. In fairness to myself there were quite a few, but it just underlines how unreliable they can be as a guide.

Benfica, left-sided attacker, medium-paced, has skills but not high-level control, wears a hair band. What could go wrong?

Gamble, up to 65 mill, right...
We were mugged royally!
These were his stats. 12 goal contribution. .

Nunez is has 38 goal contribution

I'd be keen to see what NUFC would offer for players that we don't want or don't want to renew. We should offer them Taki for £35m, at least he is prem proven

Newcastle dealt blow in £36m Hugo Ekitike transfer pursuit with work 'still to be done'
Newcastle United were last week "close" to signing Stade de Reims striker Hugo Ekitike in a deal worth up to £36million in add-ons, but a fresh update suggests a deal is still not close to completion

Newcastle United reportedly “still have work to do” to complete their £36million signing of France under-20s striker Hugo Ekitike.
Last week, it had been widely reported that Newcastle had agreed a deal with French side Stade de Reims to sign the 19-year-old, who had a stunning 2021/22 campaign in which he scored 10 league goals, four more than Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi.
However, The Telegraph are now claiming that there is work still to be done on signing the teenage forward, with the report quoting that the transfer market has so far been “sluggish.” The window does not officially open until Friday, June 10, although a number of summer deals have already been announced.

Kelleher isn't sure whether he'll remain as our #2 next season.

Sounds like he may be itching for more first team football.

It would be sad to lose him. But Becker is here for a few more years, and we rate Pitaluga as the next big thing. So he knows it will be a struggle, and he could easily get regular game time at another team.

I think there's also a thing about keeping the nucleus of the squad together to keep harmony so we cant get rid of too much at once

buy back hopefully

We may have to change the day we play, just as we had to change when Coutinho left. Klopp is good at that.

Yeah this is kind of the point that gets lost whenever transfers are discussed. You rarely see a top class player replaced like for like by another player with the exact same attributes and style which means you end up making adjustments to get the best from that player.

We don't play the same way with Thiago in the team instead of Gini, we change defensive shape when Matip plays instead of Konate.

We will play differently with a front 3 of Diaz Jota Salah if that's how it lines up next season or any other variation.

Kelleher and Ox, and potentially Gomez leaving would mean we need to sign at least 2 home grown players.

European squad requires 4 club trained players and 4 association trained.

Currently we have Kelleher, Gomez, TAA and Jones under club trained and Henderson, Milner, Ox and Carvalho under association trained.
