Transfer Rumours 21/22

Even considering the "Liverpool curse," it's unbelievable how much of a disastrous transfer it was for all parties.

PSG are paying him €10m after tax or €20m before tax every season, and his contract is 4 years. Why should he move unless those wages are replicated?

I was all for keeping Wilson.

He’s won all of most of what there was to at Liverpool and wanted one more massive payday. He’s got it but if he really thought it came with regularly playing football then he’s not really been paying attention to recent seasons or is not really smart.

Ben Doak - 16 (RW/RB/AM) Celtic

James Pearce and the Daily Record (basically Scottish Daily Mirror for those outside the UK) suggest this one is done bar the crossing of the t's and dotting of the i's.

[article]Ben Doak has emerged as a transfer target for English Premier League giants Liverpool and is said to be on the verge of an exit from Celtic.

The 16-year-old made his Hoops debut at the end of January when he came off the bench to play a part in their late win over Dundee United.

He would go on to make a similar cameo in the 3-0 win over Rangers in February
, catching the imagination of supporters.

And now he has attracted the interest of Jurgen Klopp's side, who are said to be "closing in" on his signing.

That's according to the Athletic, with the outlet saying that a deal is near completion.

But who exactly is Doak? The teenager could be another of Celtic's bright academy talents to leave in recent years.

Doak - born in November 2005 - has recently turned 16 and has made his Celtic debut at a very young age.

The Scottish kid - the grandson of former Morton player Martin Doak - came through the Hoops' youth academy and has been capped at age-group level for Scotland.

He has caps for the Under-16 side and the Under-17s - scoring once for the latter in a 1-1 draw against Wales last year.

Doak has mainly played for Tommy McIntyre's B team side this season.

He has been training with the first team intermittently for some time and was promoted to the matchday squad last year - sitting on the bench for the 3-1 win at St Johnstone in December.

As aforementioned, he came on at Parkhead in late January to make his debut, wearing the No 84, replacing Ralston in the second half and didn't shirk any responsibility.

After Jack Aitchison, he is now Celtic's second-youngest-ever player.

Doak is a wide man through and through - comfortable at full-back, as he showed today, and on the wing.

Right-sided, the teenager appeared a positive, forward-thinking player and an energetic runner.

He is small, but of stocky build and looked physically-ready for the top flight.

Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou - who has given debuts to other talented youngsters this season like Owen Moffat and Joey Dawson - praised Doak for his 22-minute display against Dundee United.

He has been impressed with him after a stint training with the top-team stars at Lennoxtown.

Postecoglou said: "He's a fantastic kid who comes from a good family. He looked really composed for his age.

"He'll have grown up a bit today, it will given him a different perspective on life. He probably would have been on the other side of the terracing if he hadn't been playing."

According to reports, Doak has been on the radar of Premier League giants Liverpool for some time.

The Hoops - it is understood - were trying to thrash out a new contract for their fledgling.

It is clear that there is a path to the first team for young players at Celtic working under Postecoglou and the Aussie won't have given up hope on persuading him to stay.

The Celtic boss is clear not afraid to throw kids in on the big stage, in crucial games, but it looks like the opportunity to work with the likes of Klopp could be too good to turn down.

Barcelona making smart signings given the position they're in. Ferran Torres, Kessie, Christensen, Mazraoui and the likes of Pedri and Gavi would give them a nice nucleus of solid young players to rebuild around.

Yeah, since Xavi was appointed their transfer business started to make sense.

Yeah, though there is an element of going for any and every bargain available and hoping it sticks.

I just had a look at the "legacy" players and they've got Pique for another 2 years (till he's 37!), Busquets for one more and Umtiti for another 4!

Some decisions for Xavi to make there.

They gave umtiti a new contract at the start of the year.. baffling.

Thought so too. They are basically linked with every possible "bargain"/available players there are. I guess they do need some "stop-gaps" in the form of "very good" players to bridge the gap while their young players continue to develop and they gather funds for better signings.
