Transfer deadline day

You're just making shit up now to suit your argument. He's been open and honest from the off. He said Carroll didn't fit his plans. He's gone. He said he needed goal scorers and replacement options though otherwise he'd be mad to let him go.

Have the owners reneged on their financial promises ? YES WAY. YES FUCKING WAY.
So you are seriously suggesting, SERIOUS like that the owners told Rodgers he could let Carroll go on loan and they would replace his goals?

Rodgers said: “I need at least three strikers. Once the window shuts, that is it until January.

“I have got Luis Suarez, Fabio Borini and Andy Carroll.

“I would need to be a nut case to even consider at this moment letting Andy Carroll go out, unless there are other solutions for that. At the moment there isn’t. Andy has been working well. He knows the situation, like the rest of the group do, and we will take it from there.”

Won't rule out the fact that Rodgers didn't had entire say over the Carroll issue. Especially not when the terms of the deal wasn't improved.

He (Rodgers) said earlier that he's reiterated from the moment he came in that we need goals.

Rodgers has been shafted like the rest of us. It's just a chain of incompetency. Owners feeling their way and stung by last seasons transfers, a CEO who should be disrupting everyone's tea in Whetherspoons with a bag full of knock off shirts (Paul Smith probably) and a manager who's a relative new comer who's got no experience of managing a big club (though with the right aspirations and at least some bollocks when it comes to fighting his corner).

We're inexperienced, naive and poorly run. We need time, help and shit load of patience because this is (clearly) going to be a long road to recovery.

He has said about the lack of goals and he said we were going to but two players today, he said we had very good people doing fantastic things in the background.

I'm not entirely sure this is correct? Rodgers has clearly said he won't pay more for a player than he thinks is their correct value. So Liverpool don't sign Dempsey or Sigurosson because of this. How's this the owners fault?

Read Binnys post mate. I'm suggesting Rodgers was given reassurances that he could close certain deals an they've gone back on their word. I need sleep now. g'night.

Why Oncy? It's not kneejerk, it's a fair observation. I'm not directly slating any of them, they're all in the same boat, the owners are new to this, the manager is new to a big club and the CEO is inept in his role.
I dont think Rodgers has been let down at all. He has played his own cards. Signed Allen 15m, Borini 12m, Assaidi 3m and Sahin (rumoured 7m plus mad wages). Thats the best part of 40m quid. If he was so fucking convinced Suarez and Borini couldnt cope he could have signed a striker.
He would have known how much he had to spend, he would have known what he was working with and he has made the choices that get us to this point.
Lets see if he has made the right choices.

Maybe he was as naive as the rest of Vlad and truly believed that.

I don't for one second believe that the guy who stood in front of the press two months ago and put Ayre in his place over a DOF would play their PR fiddle and tell everyone everything was rosy, knowing full well it wasn't.

You are right it looks better, but without strikers we are really fucked that cost us last year and we are worse off than then. We have lost Kuyt, who largely useless for large lumps of the time could play in the box, Bellamy has gone, we have lost Maxi who scored most of our goals and could play as a striker we have now lost Carroll , so as I see it we have shipped four of our strikers out and brought Borini (yet to be proved) in, and Assaidi, who we know nothing about and who could be as good as the last Morrocan winger we had, so we are two down on last year and we were short as it was then.

I can't see how anyone that thinks we have this covered including you and Andy can believe what you are saying yourselves, it's madness to do anything in the premier league you need at least three top strikers, you know the ones that can score goals, and we haven't.

I haven't got my head in the clouds, Vlad. Of course I would rather we'd strengthened up top.

I'm not trying to paint an overwhelmingly positive picture here. I'm just trying to paint a slightly less negative one. I'm well aware of our shortcomings at the top of the field, but we have bought some players this window who are genuinely exciting. I just think we should see what they have to offer before we write the team off completely.

You're in dreamland if you think the reason we didn't sign Dempsey was due to Rodgers haggling over a couple of million. Absolute dreamland.

I don't know what the owners told him when we loaned Carroll, but whatever it was I'm 100% sure they were controlling what went on today.

Well if that turns out to be true then yes he has been poorly dealt with. But im positive you dont allow a manager to sack off the idea of a DOF and then sell a striker out from under him.
It makes no sense.

He trusted them to do that, and that was the plan, and they fucked up, it's as plain as the nose on my face what has gone on today, they thought they were too fucking clever for an old Egyptian cunt, and he fucked them over, they thought they could nick Sturridge or Walcott, or there was some half baked deal in place that fell through. Why would you let a striker go on loan, taking fuck all from the deal, knowing that you had to replace him and not do it.

I don't think many of us are writing the team off Del, just genuinely concerned that should the worst happen to one of our best players, notably Suarez, it's difficult to see where the craft and goals will come from (and he's already got his critics on the latter).

This literally made me LOL. you have to laugh at times.

What about Carragher up front? He played as a striker in the youth team. Certainly has the technical capacity to do the job.

I know, it made me laugh as well when I wrote it. The worst thing is that Modo's not actually that wrong. Sinclair is actually one of our better options for the reserve striker spot. He's much more talented than Morgan, and is big for his age.

That's how ridiculous this situation is.

I guess the truth will out one way or another Vlad.

The one truth is that we are all in it together now, glass half full or half empty ay?

I know you didn't say that but he's the one being mentioned if Suarez and Borini get injured.
Mind as well be Yesil, right?

Who knows, i'm sure at least one of them will be on the bench in all our games.

It's great to see the young lads get their chance but would be better if it was in less pressurised games like the Europa, Carling Cup and not in League games but we've no real choice, they'll need to be involved.

Hopefully they surprise us but it's asking alot.

Why? No one has any clue in what's in a players contract, all the media ever releases are the transfer fees so is that the only gauge or is there something else in there that Rodgers and the Owners not happy to pay for?

I don't really understand your point. You said you thought it was probably due to Rodgers not wanting to overpay for players that we didn't get someone in, and not the owners. I said absolutely no fucking chance.

If you don't agree, fine.

Well aint that the truth old chum, I just find it so frustrating as it seemed to be going so well, and it didn't need a lot today, a decent loan signing and a bit of an old war-horse in Dempsey, instead we have given our back up striker away for the season, it seems it was two steps forward and at least once back.
It's like you have got two coats, one cost a lot of money but it's no good as it makes you sweat like fuck in the summer, the other is fine and light but isn't waterproof, so you fancy a nice Gortex breathable one will fit the bill, but they are fucking expensive a mate says he can get one for you, knock-off, for twenty sovs, so you give your good coat that is too hot to the Oxfam shop, then your mate (Let's call him Ayre) tells you he can't get the Gortex, so you are left with a light coat that isn't waterproof and winter approaches, you realise you are going to get cold wet and pissed on from a great height.
WTF am I talking about I need to go to bed

Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodgers suffers bitter transfer deadline day disappointment as LFC fail to sign anyone

By James PearceSep 1 2012

THERE was bitter disappointment for Liverpool FC boss Brendan Rodgers on transfer deadline day as he missed out on Clint Dempsey and failed to sign a replacement for Andy Carroll.

It means Rodgers is left with a worrying lack of firepower between now and January with Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini his only senior strikers.

The Anfield manager was desperate to finally secure the services of Dempsey from Fulham but the club's owners refused to sanction a £6million move.

Dempsey, who scored 17 goals in the Premier League last season, had rejected the chance to join Aston Villa earlier in the day in the hope that Liverpool would come up with the cash.

However, the Reds failed to do so and late on Friday night Dempsey agreed to sign for Tottenham on a three-year deal for £6million.

Fulham claim they turned down a bid of £3million from Liverpool and the ECHO understands the Reds weren't willing to go above £4million.

The owners were concerned about paying more for a 29-year-old who had entered the final year of his contract and would have little sell-on value.

Having off-loaded Carroll on loan to West Ham on Thursday, Rodgers further reduced the club's wage bill on Friday as Jay Spearing and Charlie Adam were moved on. Spearing joined Bolton on a season-long loan and Adam was sold to Stoke City for £4million.

Reds reserve team striker Nathan Eccleston went to Blackpool on a permanent basis and Danny Wilson is expected to join him at Bloomfield Road on a loan deal. Daniel Pacheco was on the brink of joining Real Valladolid on loan but that fell through and he remains at the club.

Yet despite those outgoings, Liverpool still failed to make a deadline day signing.

Rodgers pursued an interest in taking Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge on a season-long loan but that floundered after the striker made it clear he was only interested in a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge.

Many fans will be baffled how Liverpool allowed themselves to be left with just two frontline strikers in Suarez and Borini with back-up from Academy graduate Adam Morgan.

Thursday night's struggle to see off Hearts in the Europa League underlined the need for reinforcements and at a press conference on Friday afternoon Rodgers had made it clear how vital it was that he signed another frontman.

“There’s no doubt I need to add goals to the team,” he said. “You saw against Hearts that some of our game was very good but we need to have a ruthless streak.

“The more players of that type I’ve got will help the team. To get goalscorers into the club is the No 1 objective and let's hope by the time the window shuts we have someone in.”

At 29, Dempsey is at the peak of his career and as a proven goalscorer he would have been an ideal signing at a reasonable price. His ability to play in a number of positions would also have been a huge benefit to Rodgers but now the manager must press on with what he's got.

The summer transfer window saw Liverpool bring in five new signings in Fabio Borini (£11m), Joe Allen (£15m), Oussama Assaidi (£3m), Nuri Sahin (loan) and teenager Samed Yesil (£1m), who will start off with the club's under-21s.

High-earners such as Dirk Kuyt, Maxi Rodriguez, Alberto Aquilani, Craig Bellamy and Fabio Aurelio left the club, with the subsequent departure of Carroll, Adam and Spearing also significantly reducing the wage bill.

Cost-cutting measures have severely hampered Rodgers' bid to overhaul the squad he inherited.

“It's difficult but that's the situation we're in,” the manager added.

“This is an incredible club and the challenge of being manager of Liverpool Football Club is massive.

“The current climate makes it difficult but I love being here. It’s all part of being a manager.

“I've been used to working with limited resources but the demands are different here.

“I've got a tight group and and we're trying to make the first steps to bring us success in the future. Sometimes the first steps are the most difficult ones to take.”

There we have it

Then we should have swallowed our pride and fucking paid it , we created the situation
Let's face it, if we did then we'll always be known as mugs, happy to pay over the price.

I'd rather we did what we did. Especially for a player that's expected to be back-up.

Hang on it's a million pounds we are talking small change here in the great scheme of things, people might have had a little chuckle that Al Fayed stung us for a few quid, but as it stands now we are a fucking laughing stock over this deal, and have seriously prejudiced our position for this season.
I think paying £35m for Andy Carroll, £18m for Jordan Henderson and £20m for Downing, who are now collectively worth about £25m might give people more of a clue to our business credentials than paying a bit of a premium ofr a tapping up that went wrong
