Torres pulls hamstring in last 30 seconds!

Torres's form and injuries are starting to piss me off. I worry he will be another Redders on the injury front and maybe oddly enough £50 million to the chavs would turn out to be a good return if he continues to play for half a season

You have to worry

Fernando Torres injury update

Liverpool are hopeful the injury sustained by Fernando Torres in the World Cup final isn't as bad as first feared.

The Reds' striker pulled up with what appeared to be a serious injury just seconds before the final whistle in Sunday night's game, sparking fears he could be set for a lengthy lay-off.

But Dr Peter Brukner, the new Head of Medicine and Sports Science at Anfield, has moved to reassure fans Torres shouldn't be sidelined for too long.

He said: "We've been in touch with the Spanish medical team and they don't think it's too serious. It's an adductor muscle injury but they've not had a chance to assess it today.

"Fernando will have a proper assessment and probably a scan tomorrow and some of the Liverpool medical staff will go to Madrid later in the week to fully assess the injury and organise his rehab. At this stage we don't think it's too serious.

"We can't say too much more at the moment until it is properly assessed."

That would explain why he was only at half pace for the entire tournament. Apparently stats about running speed had his top speed at the World Cup the same as Gareth Barry's.

He clearly was never fit to play and he shouldn't have.

I read a piece pre-World Cup stating his return date was estimated at 29th July by the club, so it's hardly surprising he's struggled.

There were also rumours that he wasn't fit to play the final at all (and wouldn't), weren't there?

That might explain why Del Bosque waited so long before gambling with him?

I hadn't seen that, I'd imagine some of the Anfield back room are a bit annoyed about it. Hopefully it's just some inflammation and he hasn't torn anything.

Torres will be glad he was picked half fit, he has a world cup winners medal

I read an interview with Del Bosque were he said exactly this, it was only because Torres was desperate to play that he was included on the bench.

Yeah, I bet Torres probably didn't want to play in the World Cup at all. Those nasty Spanish.

nonchalant cisse after his leg break in an early season match versus the mighty blackburn

Fuck wimpy torres who cried after inflaming an injury in the world cup final (after having a poor tournament due to being injured) after having 2 years on and off with injury.

Hes a fag

I can't look at that again.

it looks like he has 3 knees 🙂

SSN showed part of an interview with him this morning in which he said he'd like to come back to the Prem and that LFC are "his club".

I can't see that happening myself, but it was nice to hear all the same.

EDIT: Just seen other thread. Soz.

SSN are reporting Torres has ruptured a muscle in his left thigh.

I'd be willing to bet that's a bit overly dramatic though

Spain's Football Federation says Liverpool and World Cup-winning Spain striker Fernando Torres has ruptured a muscle in his left thigh.
In a statement on its website the federation says Torres had a magnetic resonance scan on Tuesday at the Cemtro de Madrid Clinic and evidence was found of "a Grade 1 muscle fiber rupture in the left thigh."

Torres struggled to make the World Cup after missing the end of Liverpool's season with right knee injuries and looked sluggish in South Africa.

He pulled up shortly after coming on during extra time of Sunday's 1-0 win over the Netherlands in the final.

Cadena Ser news network said Wednesday the scan results would be sent to Liverpool and it was unlikely Torres would play before the new season starts next month.

I'd be willing to bet tear got mistranslated to rupture and Torres will be out for 6 to 8 weeks. A grade 1 tear is the least severe.

Fernando Torres 'fit to face Arsenal in Liverpool's opening League game

Fernando Torres will be fit to take on Arsenal in Liverpool's opening game of the Premier League season after the club confirmed he will be back from his groin injury within three weeks.

Torres tore a muscle in the closing stages of the World Cup final against the Netherlands, and has since undergone scans in his native Spain to determine the extent of the problem.

And the results of the MRI are better than first expected, showing initial reports of up to two months on the sidelines were wide of the mark and he could be back by the first week of August.

"The initial assessment was he had a mild adductor tear and the Spanish medial staff didn't consider it to be too serious at the time," Peter Brukner, Liverpool's head of sports science and medicine, told the club's official website.

"He had an MRI scan yesterday which confirmed a small tear.

"He should be able to resume training within two to three weeks and be able to play again within three to four weeks."

Such a timescale would make him available for the Reds' opening match of the new season against fellow title hopefuls Arsenal at Anfield on August 15th in just over a month's time.

Ha, he hasnt been fit for about 6 months his chances of recovering from this in 4 weeks time for arsenal are minimal especially considering he wasnt fit in the first place and will spend about a week celebrating, his injury record is become a liability regardless of his obvious talent, if there really was a £50m bid out there then id be inclined to accept it, Liverpool are not in a position to nurse players for half a season and Fernando looks like he is gonna be one of those players

If Purslow and Broughton wernt at the club Torres would be fit tomorrow.

Yeah. those two and their dodgy medical degrees :-\

From the Mirror...

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is ready to fly out to meet striker Fernando Torres today - and ask him if he wants to stay or be sold.

Hodgson knows that Spanish star Torres' decision will mould his transfer thinking and movement for the window and he wants to get a straight answer from El Nino.

Torres has been sending out mixed messages on what he plans to do and Hodgson wants have a thorough conversation about the next move.

The Kop idol has hinted he wants to know what Liverpool have planned for next season and he is aware that there are some big clubs waiting for him if he says he wants to leave.

Chelsea, Manchester City and even Manchester United are ready to make offers if Liverpool sell Torres - at his own request - and the chase would start immediately after the Hodgson meeting.

Liverpool would want around £50 million for the striker whose injury-hit and misfiring club campaign ended with some low-key displays at the World Cup.

They need a straight answer out of Torres as they have to line up a replacement and have him registered for the Europa League campaign.

Torres discovered yesterday he will be out for three weeks because of a ruptured muscle in his left thigh.

Hodgson wants to hang on to his World Cup-winning striker and seized on him being photographed wearing a Liverpool scarf during Spain's celebrations on Sunday as proof for Kopites that he is happy at Anfield.

"I think it's safe to say the pictures of Fernando in the dressing room with the World Cup certainly went down well with our fans, but the club can be proud of all the players who went away to the World Cup," said the Liverpool manager.

Hodgson ignored talk of Torres' possible departure and says he is looking forward to working with him and the club's other World Cup finalists when they return to Melwood at the start of next month.

"As Liverpool manager, I take great pride in the fact that two of our players can call themselves World Cup winners this summer," he said.

"To have four players reach the final is an incredible achievement and I look forward to working with them when they return to Melwood after their holidays."

Liverpool claim Torres could be ready by the start of next month and are flying out members of their medical team to Madrid to organise his rehab.

The Reds are in close contact with Spain's doctors, who yesterday diagnosed what they called "a grade one" tear in Torres' thigh when they sent him for a scan in Madrid.

Liverpool's new head of sports science and medicine, Dr Peter Brukner, claims this is good news and that the club's £26.5million record signing will be back in time for their Premier League opener against Arsenal on August 15.

"The initial assessment was he had a mild adductor tear and the Spanish medial staff didn't consider it to be too serious at the time," said Brukner.

"He had an MRI scan yesterday, which confirmed a small tear. He should be able to resume training within two to three weeks and be able to play again within three to four weeks."

The kop idol has hinted....

Erm no, he hasn't, you're making it up & it still sounds like bs. I fucking hate the tabloids.
