What a load of bollocks. We all love Torres but he has not actually extended his contract with us - so he's got more money for no extra commitment to the club. I'm sure he's chuffed with another payrise though.
I'm not blaming him, but wtf on behalf of the club, what are they playing at.

Yeah, what are they playing at? Rewarding our best players and keeping them happy - ridiculous behaviour!

Simply a pay rise then isn't it ?
[/quote]

It is more than a payrise. it is a commitment. And he is now under a newly signed contract prevent him to leave under the buy out my contract clause. Great news for a great club!

I'm not blaming anyone, I just dont get it. Surely they would tie him into atleast another 1yr if he's got to put pen to paper? Or get him back a 6yr one?
Money surely can't be an issue? I thought he came over and signed on close to 100k?

Whatever he signed for when he came, Torres has proven himself worth more. No one thought he'd be as fucking brilliant as he has been. If he wants £150k a week we should give it to him, because you can be certain every other big club in Europe would.

Yep, I would give him the 150k, and make sure he was back on a 6yr deal to get it 😉

I've just finished reading todays paper and it's not a new contract at all.

It says that when he signed for us, he was on 70k a week and in his contract it stipulated he was etitled to review his wages at the end of his 2nd season - and has now been offered a bump to 110k a week.
Nothing at all has changed apart from his wages, which I'm sure he's chuffed about and he deserves.

He's still got 4yrs left on his contract so we're in no rush 😀

he has extended his contract, there is no such thing as a 6 year contract. standard contract as per FIFA regulation is 5 years in football, with strictly non binding options permitted. his one in 2007 would have taken him to 2012, this will take him potentially to 2014 so he has added 2 years and also since it's a new contract he resets the Webster clause so he has to serve 3 years of this new one now before he can buy it out whereas on his previous one he could buy it out next year

Fernando Torres has put pen to paper on a new and improved contract at Anfield.
The 25-year old striker agreed the terms of the deal back in May and has now completed the formalities of signing the new contract.

Torres was already tied to Anfield for the next four seasons after signing a six-year deal in 2007.

This new contract includes an option for a further year's extension to 2014.
