The problem is this isn't a debating club and there aren't any parents to tell who is right or wrong.

Football for the most part is opinion. When we are winning most can just ignore those they don't see eye to eye with and concentrate on the results and being positive. However when our season is effective over by November suddenly that patient is lost even in the most placid of posters and the name calling and heated debates go through the roof.

Everyone is in a fucked off mood so what better way to let off some steam that unload a rant on a poster you don't like but normally bite your lip with.

That's all this thread is and most threads have been for a while. Normally the "better" posters can shut up the "poor" (negative) one's by pointing to our results and league position. They can't do that anymore so the likes of Rage Glock etc are harder to stomach. There negative rants about our club cut closer to the bone and at the end of the day nobody likes to be told they are wrong or worse to actually realise they are. Especially from a poster they really don't like. So it ends stupid childish namecalling. Bottom line is there is nothing you can do as a mod but let it runs its course. Otherwise you are going to banning alot of people as Shiek has pointed out.

For what its worth I think this thread has probably kept a good few us happily entertained for the last 3/4 days so how bad?

True enough but if the site is looking for fresh blood then there should be a little common sense by the old guard to give newbies a grace period.

One guy told me his one and only post in the football forum was about how he thought Carragher should get rested and that was it was hung out to dry by one of the big boys and he hasn't posted sense.

That's a bit unfair, you know. I always make a point of saying welcome if I spot a new poster and countless others (I think I recall you among them) do the same and go on to be very encouraging. I think the mods have been made paranoid about this quite unfairly.

I'd volunteer but the weapon I had in my arsenal was *Brendumb* and thats been taken away and even that took me a good 24 hours to come up with which isn't really whats needed when you need a witty quick response.

I think Keni would be good on the football side or Gene just for the shear comedy. Every thread he touches turns to Gold.

Ha hardly. I was very upbeat, probably to upbeat for most when I thought Rafa would lead us to no19 and beyond.

But since the summer last year I don't think he can and will remain *moany* until he proves otherwise or is replaced.

If we had a new manager in the morning depending on who it was my mood could flip 180 degrees overnight.

I just don't think we'll win the league with Rafa and at this stage anything but first is not good enough for me.

At the end of this season we could conceivable be looking at 6 seasons under Rafa and 4 without a major Trophy and no CL footie next season. I'm not going to apologise for being a moany cunt with that prospect on the horizon.

My view on the thing is fairly simple on the whole thing. I think it's fairly easy most of the time to distinguish between banter and abuse. There'll be occasions of course when some things will enter the usual grey area. If such an occasion transpires then we should give a little nudge to the perceived abuser just to ease off a little. As sometimes meanings and intentions can get mistranslated there's also ways a reinforcing your intent like ( and God forbid me for saying this) the use of an emotion smiley.


I'd ask people just think a little more when debating with another poster - you can normally get your point across without resorting to personal insults. It's the escalation of those we need to reduce and, if we have to, erradicate. And I've been as guilty as most people in the past to resorting to insults.

No-one wants to see what makes this forum unique dissappear and that's the sites general liberalism but people need to understand that it's not right, the instant they disagree with someone, to resort immediately to insults and/or abuse. It simply snowballs away from serious or humorous debate into a verbal custard pie fight and it's dragging the site down. The stats are proving that.

And from a personal opinion, I'm returning to the site in a day or two as a Mod - thanks for the kind words and stuff but I won't care who you are. You'll all get treated equally whether that be a new poster, an established poster or even a personal friend.

I read the first 10 pages of this thread out of a morbid curiosity to see if anyone has put me on the ignore list.

But this thread was far tooo boring really. It always is were Rage is concerned. All his points are repetitive and equally the abuse hurled at him is just as repetitive. It has all been said really.
