Too soon to call for Rafa's head?

Why would anyone want MON though?
He consistently gets the best out of what he's given. If you disagree, fair enough, that's my opinion.

Hiddink doesnt have a club why couldnt we get him in!?
He said that he wants to carry on with Russia today.
He said that cos City inquired about him, he might think differently if we went in for him.

Rafa4PM, you over-rate Rafa as much as you under-rate the club.
Thats bollocks.

People thinking that the best managers in the world will jump at the chance to come to us in the state we're in, are equally off their heads!
Has your faith in Rafa waivered yet?
Yes it has begun to.

But it's ludicrous to think about getting rid unless we have a better replacement lined up.

Nobody has been able to name a single manager yet that would fit the bill AND that we'd be able to get in.
I thought it would be best to wait and see how the season pans out, but now id just sack him and put Kenny in charge and see how he goes or until we can find someone new. Id love to know how the players would feel about that.

There was a consesus against MON during GH's last days. Ironically it looks like his Villa side have been improving throughout those years, while we had our ups and downs, but are currently looking very much on a deep down. He's also got a local spine to his team which I think is very important. I won't rule his name out once I accept that Rafa should go.
I don't understand why he would come here. He has a young improving team and a supportive board that stays out of the spotlight. Whereas we have no money and a bunch of cowboys in charge, we need a new stadium but there is unlikely to be any money for us to spend as we will have to scrape together the money to use as a deposit on a loan for it. Also the expectations are much higher here, despite the fact we are competing with Chelsea/City with unlimited money, Scum with an established team that is used to winning, and Arsenal who are well on the way to paying for their stadium.
Your kidding right? MON would jump at the chance to manage Liverpool!

He'd be my 2nd choice after Mourinho.
Why would I be kidding? He has a good thing going at Villa, why the fuck would in want to come to a club struggling with internal politics and with no money? Villa are not a small club either, granted they don't have the history of Liverpool or the Scum but they are one of only 4 teams in England to have won the European Cup.
Yeah but come on, we are still one of the biggest clubs in the world, top 5. Villa are not.

Half a season would not fuck up his legacy.

I like Rijkaard, but I'm not sure he can hack the pressure when things are going wrong and he would need a very good number two.

However, I think we're all getting caught up in the excitment. Rafa won't walk out, he's far too pig-headed to do that. And the won' be sacked, not just because of the pay out but also because Rafa and a small section of our fans have done an outstanding job in convincing the owners and the majority of the media that the fans love him. The owners know the fans hate them already and if they're convinced that the fans love Rafa they're not gonna risk further heat from the fans by sacking him.

Agree about Rijkaard.

Yeah it probably wouldn't cost the full £20m to get rid of Rafa, but the likelyhood is that we'd have to pay compensation in order to get another manager in. So unless we were to get in somebody who is out of a job, then it's going to cost us a small fortune either way.

I'm not convinced by MON. He was WWFC manager (my local team) and took us up two leagues in two seasons, so I do appreciate what he can do, I'm just not convinced that he can really cut it at the top level. The way Villa bottled it last season reaffirmed that fear.

Like I said I'm not convinced Rijkaard is the answer either, I'd be excited if he was appointed cos I like him and his style of play, although I wouldn't necessarily be convinced by his appointment.

Truth is, I don't know who the answer is. Furthermore, I don't think we need to worry about it anyway as I don't think Rafa's going anywhere.

Laurent Blanc
Thats probably one of the only decent (and realistic) shouts yet.

Still it would be a big gamble.

I do think it's far too early to be calling for his head. We must give him time to get those players that have been out injured back to fitness and allow him to strengthen in January.

I also think that the players need to share responsibility, some of the performances recently fall below the standard even personal pride would dictate.

And more importantly, a change in management now would necessitate yet another long term plan and presumably wholesale changes in personnel.

I can't imagine the owners are going to want to rip everything up and start again but I can see them giving extra resources in January.

I can see why sacking Benitez is on the agenda but surely it would just be kneejerk with 20 odd games still to play.

Because there is a strong possability that he'll turn out to be a lesser manager than the one we currently have.

You can slate Rafa all you like, but he's still obviously a very good manager and amongst the best about (his record proves that without a doubt). It won't be easy to replace him with someone that turns out to be better.

It's a good shout but still a huge risk, and one that i'd be reluctant to take.
