Righty-oh. Seems Palermo want to spend some of the Kjaer money on him. Wonder how our resident Great Dane would feel about that. 😉

Asamoah Gyan: Liverpool Step Up Chase for £10M World Cup Star as Turks Make Move

Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan enjoyed an excellent World Cup after playing a big role in his nation’s march into the quarter-finals. Unfortunately for him, he will forever be remembered for his missed penalty against Uruguay. However, that has not stopped a number of top European clubs showing an interest with Roy Hodgson reportedly prepared to bring him to Liverpool. However, a move to Anfield is under threat following a £10m bid from Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Ghana were the shining lights of the African nations at the tournament as the rest failed to qualify from their respective groups. After scoring three goals including two coolly taken penalties the 24-year-old has risen to the attention of a number of clubs in the Premier League with Liverpool reportedly already making inquiries with the player’s French club Rennes. However, Fenerbahce have made the first official bid which may leave Roy Hodgson struggling to contend with as he seeks deals for Belgian playmaker Steven Defour and Valencia’s Ever Banega.

Last season Gyan enjoyed his most prolific campaign to date with 13 goals in 29 league appearances for Rennes (27 starts). That form has been carried on into the World Cup finals where the big striker has proven to be a real handful for opposition defenders with his raw pace and power. He has also shown a cool temperament when dispatching two successful penalties against both Serbia and Australia which will appeal to his Premier League suitors. Even after missing from the spot in extra-time against Uruguay, the African star still had the mental strength to net in the shoot-out. Gyan’s strike against the USA perfectly illustrated the striker’s strength and pace as well as his finishing ability. He can sometimes be guilty of being wasteful in front of goal as he was against the Germans but he has impressed in each of Ghana’s matches which is why Roy Hodgson has stepped up his chase to bring him to Liverpool particularly now Fernando Torres faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The Reds are set to rebuild this summer with Javier Mascherano and perhaps Lucas set to depart to Barcelona/Inter Milan and Palermo respectively, so Liverpool will have the funds to bring in some much needed new talent. Hodgson is renowned for getting the best from his players and believes Gyan would be as big a hit in the Premier League despite being relatively raw. The striker would certainly improve Liverpool’s options up front as David Ngog and new boy Milan Jovanovic are the Reds only fit first-team strikers now that Dirk Kuyt plies his trade on the wing.

The 24-year-old has been playing in Europe since 2003 when he moved from Ghanaian club side Liberty Professionals to Udinese in Italy. They soon loaned him out to Serie B side Modena where he scored 15 times in 52 league games (28 starts). He returned to Udinese where he made a further 39 league appearances (28 starts) and scored 11 times. Gyan was almost sold to Lokomotiv Moscow after the 2006 World Cup after impressing as he scored Ghana’s first ever World Cup finals goal after just 68 seconds in a 2-0 win over the Czech Republic. However, instead he remained in Italy until Rennes made their move in July 2008 paying €8m for him. Gyan has scored 14 goals in 45 league appearances in France (33 starts) but 13 of those goals came last season and has led to Roy Hodgson’s interest in bringing the powerful striker to Anfield.

Gyan’s international record is excellent; he has scored 23 times in 45 internationals and became the youngest player to score for Ghana aged 17 in November 2003. He also played a key role as Ghana reached the 2010 African Cup of Nations final scoring three of their four goals in the tournament. At 6 ft 1 he is physically built for the Premier League and would provide Liverpool with more variation to their attack, he can play up front on his own like Fernando Torres but could also work in tandem with the Spaniard in an extremely quick and athletic forward line. The striker is likely to want to leave Rennes too for a more lucrative and prestigious move to Liverpool where he could really make a name for himself on the Premier League stage.

The Reds will have to move quickly to compete with Fenerbahce but with Hodgson’s need for a striker increasing after Torres’ injury, Liverpool are set to match the Turkish sides bid.

What do you reckon to him, mate? I'm not convinced myself. He's not a bad player or anything but I reckon he's a bit of a battering-ram, not quite in the highest class. I might consider him as Torres' stand-in but £10 mill.is too much to be paying for one of those.

I only saw one full game with him playing (v Germany), and i remember thinking that if they had had a decent striker they would of won the game.

Basically on that 90mins i'm not a big fan.

Henry has signed for New York Red Bulls on a free.

Barca has also sold Chygerinsgzkiwhatizface back to Shaktar Donetsk for 12 mill £, a year after buying him for 22 mill £.

Good business by Shaktar, and equally horrible by Barca..

Ivory Coast ace rejects Liverpool move

I'll play with Lille next season. This is my first year. I still have two years of my contract [to run] Ivory Coast star Gervinho has revealed his intention to stay at Lille - ruling out a potential move to Liverpool.

Goal.com are reporting that the 23-year-old was subject to a 12 million euro bid from the Reds, but the winger has expressed his desire to stay in France rather than move to Merseyside.

Having started his senior career at former Arsenal feeder club Beveren, he was granted a transfer to Le Mans having spent two years in Belgium.

After an eye-catchng first season in Ligue 1 he was linked with a move elsewhere; eventually joining Lille for 8 million euros in July 2009.

His stock rose even further at the Nord club - scoring 13 goals in 32 appearances last season. This impressive goal return has since seen him heavily linked with Arsenal and, latterly, Liverpool.

Roy Hodgson is understood to be keen to add to his wide options having offloaded want away Israeli midfielder Yossi Benayoun to Chelsea. However, the new Liverpool boss will have to look elsewhere for replacements after Gervinho told a French radio station that he will stay with Les Dogues.

"I'll play with Lille next season. This is my first year. I still have two years of my contract [to run]," he said.

"Do not panic. I had good times last season and still have good things to come."

Surely this is another Beckham move, he's far too good for the MLS.

I expect him to be in Seria A/ the Prem by this time next year.

Barca are perceived as the model club bringing through their youth (which they do of course) but they also heavily invest in the transfer market and combine that to their huge wage bill.

Zlatan and Chygrynskiy cost the best part of a 100 million with nothing to show for it. As long as they keep finding more Pedro's, Messi's etc it won't really matter. How lucky for them.

They bought players for 90 mill euros last season, so it's not all down to the magical acadamy..

Would be nice to have it both ways. Money and a great acadamy.

Would be nice to have either really

Lots of twittering that we have made a bid for Micah Richards.

Not sure if thats an area we need to bulk up first.

I agree, I think we have enough right backs that can't defend.

Beattie had one superb season for Southampton where he looked world-class for 12 months and was smashing in all sorts of goals for fun.

Then he went to Everton and was found out to be a moody, lazy cunt who wasn't very good at football.

I hope we don't sign him.

That's mental. I thought he was outstanding in the UEFA Cup final, but he's been turd for Barca. He was such a pointless signing as well seeing as they had enough cover in Milito, Marquez and if necessary Abidal and Toure. They get a lot of signings right but that was disastarous.

From RAWK;

have a friend at work who is an avid Ipswich Town fan and their forums are going mad saying we have signed Connor Wickham for £10m. Now if true how the hell have we signed a 17 year old for £10m with our financial problems.

This is purely based on the fact that he's a diehard Liverpool fan.

We won't be buying him.

If we do it, it'll be a few million now with a fuck load of clauses

Haven't seen him play yet, but heard great things. Big lad for his age, and probably destined for greater things.

Would be a great signing for the future.

*Concurs*

I would have had him for a year (maybe 2?) on a free.

Wickham is very highly rated by some people who know their football
So who informed you about him?

It's Tomkins that has said we've made a bid for Micah.

Rory Smith has said that Palermo will be back with an increased offer for Lucas. Cavani is on his way to Napoli.

Hertha Berlin are ready to part with Gojko Kacar for 8 mill £. Would be the perfect replacement for Mascher if he leaves. Or Lucas for that matter.

Will probably be sold to another club before we need to look at an midfielder anyway.

He had a good tournament for England u17's this summer. Reminds me of Shearer a little.

I've never seen Wickham play, only heard that he's meant to be very good.

Is he significantly better than Pacheco and LDV?
If he's like Shearer now then he'll be completely immobile by the time he's 23.
