You tried 89.99999999999°?

Someone over on TIA reckon we're in for Cattermole as Maschers replacement.

Wouldn't mind that at all.

not as far as im aware. I thought the 6+5 was scrapped but in our PL squad we need 8 homegrown players. The same applies to the europa thingy.

Cattermole's all right, but Beattie? That's not scraping the bottom of the barrel, that's digging right through it into the s**t below.

Liverpool set to seal double swoop
Liverpool set to seal double swoop
New Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is hoping to complete the double signing of Paul Scharner and Taye Taiwo
By David Brenchley July 13, 2010

Roy Hodgson is reportedly set to complete his first piece of business as Liverpool manager with the double signing of Paul Scharner and Taye Taiwo.

Scharner is available from Wigan Athletic on a free transfer after his contract expired at the end of the season.

With a limited budget available if he wants to keep hold of his players, Hodgson will be looking for bargain players who are proven in the Premier League.

Valentin Hobel, Scharner’s agent, recently said: “Roy Hodgson and Paul Scharner - this is a special relationship.

“Liverpool would be a dream, of course, but we are in contact with several clubs. Because he is a free transfer, he can choose.â€

The former Fulham boss sees the Austrian as a central midfielder rather than defender, which could see him replacing Lucas Leiva.

Lucas is reportedly the subject of an offer from Palermo and could be joined out of the Anfield exit door by fellow holding midfielder Javier Mascherano – with Inter Milan the likely destination for Argentina’s captain.

Taiwo, who currently plies his trade in France with Marseille, would also be a replacement – for the Fiorentina-bound Emiliano Insua.

Tottenham are also interested in the £8.5 million-rated Nigerian international left-back and it would be a straight choice between the more prestigious Liverpool or Champions League side Spurs.

Anyone has to be an improvement over Insua

Ditto Lucas. Apart from Scharner, maybe.

Still, as long as they both go, I'll be content

Clearly we will need to reinvest some of the Mascherano noney, although we obviously won't get *all* of that money

Regards Beattie, he was linked with us prior to Hodgson being appointed. Sounds like lazy journalism.

And with N'Gog, we want to actually build a 'squad', so if he stays as 3rd/4th choice, so be it. We need to bolster the squad and the likes of Scharner will do that, but we can't afford to have a mass clearout, sending players on loan or letting them go for next to fuck all. We need numbers aswell as additional quality.

"Scharner to Beattie... back to Scharner....beats one, beats two... cheeky back heel to Beattie...my woooord what a finish!! The Kop goes wild and Liverpool are in their 8th European Cup Final!!!"

Francisco Duran has been relased on a free. Shame, the lad had great talent but sadly has had every injury known to man since joining us.

Pity, good player.

Piece in the Mail today saying Hodgson has told Lucas he does have a future at Liverpool. Though that might just be a negotiating tactic because Fiorentina have only offered £3m so far, apparently.

So is him having a future at Liverpool

I will stop caring about Liverpool if he is in our starting line-up next season, it will be too painful

3 million for Lucas is indeed a joke. 8 million is fair.

We would need to replace him and we won't get anyone better for 3million.

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is planning a £6m bid for Monaco's 25-year-old South Korean forward Park Chu-Young.

Fiorentina aren't in for him as far as I'm aware. It's Insua they're said to be tracking. I thought it was Rafa who was looking to take Lucas to Inter if a fee can be agreed.

Sorry, it's Palermo who've bid for Lucas.
