Elsewhere in Brazil..

I remember a news story from a couple of years ago about a player cutting off someone's head (forgot if the poor sod was an opponent or a referee) after a game in rural Brazil and just walking home like nothing happened.

UPD: Here. Actually it was both – the ref stabbed a player to death and then other players decapitated the ref and placed his head on a spike. Just another day in Maranhao.

In slightly less macabre news, Salah scored 2 and made 2. But his finishing is still way off – he should have had at least 5. The assists were nice though.

Warning: possibly NSFW due to the the way one of the countries is pronounced in Serbian.

Overall not a good performance from Mo. Missed two penalties and some of his passing was wayward too. For him to return to peak fitness / performance very match helps though I guess.

Yeah excellent performance from Shaqiri .. hope he gets a start for us soon, I'd like to see him integrated and us able to rotate (we'll have to anyway for this upcoming schedule of matches).

Would love to see him playing as an advanced central midfielder against park the bus sides. He spots passes in the titest of spaces and can shoot glorious long shots.

Yes ... despite his size ... he is everything we hoped Adam Lallana would have been.

Let’s not get carried away. I like the lad a lot but he’s done nothing yet. Save the praise for when he’s had meaningful impact over a season.

Lallana at least had a 4 month period where he was top class and not a total fucking waste of money

25M should give you more than just 4 months from a player. Also in those 4 months I suspect he only managed maybe 10 games at most ?

His number one trait is his underlying humility. It's what endears him to everyone, friend or foe. He doesn't take himself too seriously.

The likes of Moarinho can learn a thing or two.

I don't altogether approve of token women on football shows, but I guess it is acceptable if they are tasty.

I'm liking Alex Scott on the panel for England v Switzerland. She can pump up my bladder any time.

Did I hear Neville say that TAA is just a defender and not suited to going forward? He obviously hasn't watched him much.

Yes Neville did say that! In my opinion TAA is stronger going forward than he is in defence.

I don't know who was doing the commentary but he droned on and on all through the match, and Gary Neville was droning alongside him, so that it was quite sleep-inducing.

This is the result of the International break. Players from Glenavon, Coleraine and Dungannon beat a team from La Liga and the Bundesliga. Of course, the ROI will try and steal the decent ones.

Northern Ireland have earned an historic victory over Spain U21s in Albacete

Everton forward Shayne Lavery put Northern Ireland ahead before Liam Donnelly followed up with the second from the penalty spot. Former Dungannon full-back Donnelly was making his record-breaking 22nd appearance for the U21s.
Spain threatened to pull a goal back before the break but Celtic stopper Conor Hazard saved a penalty kick.
Wolves striker Rafa Mir grabbed a late consolation goal in the 92nd minute but Northern Ireland held on for the win.
The result puts Northern Ireland just a point behind second-placed Slovakia with two games to go.

On his record breaking 22nd U21 appearance, Liam Donnelly puts us TWO up against Spain!

The victory is even more impressive through the fact that every member of Spain's starting line-up has experience in La Liga or the Bundesliga. Included were the likes of Carlos Soler, who has started 49 La Liga matches for Valencia.
It's a Spanish side that had won 14 of their last 15 matches before tonight. In fact, in Spain U21s' last 16 matches, they've conceded more than one goal only twice. Both occasions were against Northern Ireland, tonight's game adding to NI's 5-3 defeat at Shamrock Park back in March.
On the other side, Glenavon's Mark Sykes started for NI with Coleraine forward Jamie McGonigle coming on from the bench.
SPAIN: Sivera, Mere, Nunez, Roca, Ruiz (Mir 50), Pedraza, Soler (Diop 77), Fornals (Mendez 68), Mayoral, Oyarzabal, Guerrero
NORTHERN IRELAND: Hazard, L Donnelly, Johnson, Ballard, McDonagh, Sykes, Lavery (McGonigle 61), Burns, Dunwoody (Gorman 74), Smyth, Rory Holden (Bird 78)
