The season before last, we had Alonso and Mascherano to protect our back four, last season we had Mascherano and Lucas. We had Gerrard and Lucas last night.

Those are the contributing factors.

Anyone claiming that Agger is good in the air, would have to have a fertile imagination.

And have missed the 2nd goal

Johnson, Carra and Skrtel were equally poor last night but please don't let that ruin this reversed Agger-love-in.

Did anyone else think Reina looked a bit shaky on the second goal too?

your "defend all danish players to the death" schtick is getting a little stale KHL. agger was shit. utter shit. he's not a left back; he's a good center back, and he's not great in the air. facts. of the three he was definitely the worst. and richards should never have been in position to put such a shot past reina, it was not a matter of shakiness.

He had a mare last night? What else do want me to say? Call him names?

I'm just baffled to see the ammount of shite he receives on here when the likes of Reina, Johnson and Skrtel seems to somehow dodge those bullets.

Skrtel made the clumsiets of challenges on the penalty and yet people are defending him saying ah well he was just a little late. Not his fault. Johnsons's good.

Reina looked shaky for a second game in a row which is a highly contributing factor to the overall poorness of our defense.

Johnson threw away a gazillion balls last night when we were on the break and generally looked poor in the back.

I've just browsed through a few sites and papers ratings and it seems none of them rates Agger's performance any worse than the rest of the defenders.

NB We talk alot about our defense last night but we were equally inept in attack mind.

Agger is a talented player, but heading ability is just not one of his talents. I think we need to face up to that.

I'm quite depressed today, it's hard not to be after that. I can't see a way forward unless we clear out the dead weight. Lucas in particular just has to go, he simply can't cut it in the EPL.

We need a left back. If we could I'd also buy a right back, move Johnson up to right wing and cash in on Kuyt (although I like him). Masher should never get near the team again, whether he's sold or not so we need at least 2 excellent centre midfielders because I want Gerrard playing off Torres. We need someone who can play that Torres role when Torres in injured and although I've been impressed with N'Gog, he's not there yet.

We also need Roy to learn from his almighty fuck up last night. We know that Mascherano may have made life much more complicated for him and it may have affected the whole squad. But there's no way he should have played a 442 with Gerrard and Lucas in the middle together and N'Gog partnering Torres. I don't know anyone who has watched Liverpool over the last 2 years who would have even considered that team and formation.

what's worrying is that we're offloading two good players in Aqua and Mascherano thus further weakening us combined with an inept manager experimenting with a shallow squad

What's worrying is that Aqua isn't rated by your idol, and that your idol is one of the reasons Roy has to work with a shite squad.

What did Skrtel do wrong? He was covering the rest of the back four constantly, Agger wasn't even ripped on the left for the penalty, he was stood on the edge of the box with another player next to him and he still let Johnson past. The only mistake Skrtel made was being slower than Johnson to get to the loose ball, the fact he was exposed in the first place was because Agger fucked up, which he did all night.
