We make money on the kit deal which gives the right to New Balance to make and sell the kit. The LFC shop is the way we make money from merchandise, not when Mike Ashleys company buys and sells a shirt from New Balance.

Its a myth that grew up in Madrid (and on Football Manager) , when they actually made their money back by selling TV rights when everyone wanted to see Beckham , Zidane play etc. We've never had that flexibility because the league controls the rights.

We were selling more shirts than Madrid in our Adidas days, we still didn't compete with them on wages though.

Most people wouldn't be but there are occasionally players that are liked so much that even neutrals buy stuff with their name on it. Loads of non barca fans have Messi shit

Probably less so in football than other sports.
