The Suarez/Evra Racism Row

Re: The Suarez/Evra Racism Row (continued)

Great statement. I think, the club, players and fans should do what we always do, rally together and keep winning on the pitch to send a clear message to the FA, snipers and rivals. Fuck You.

Re: The Suarez/Evra Racism Row (continued)

Jono@home - where did you get that *Warrior* LFC kit sketch ?

It doesn't look like it was the same person that released the club statement last night anyway. Cos the above is spot on

Were you shocked and angered that he has been found guilty by the FA as well then?

tbf you are probably not that far from the truth.. Sponsors wouldn't want to be associated with the nonsense that has been going on.. Liverpool are probably aware of this, and well this is probably the first in long line of things like this to change the portrayal of Suarez and Liverpool FC in the Media.. This is why Liverpool will fight these charges ONLY if they have a case to put forward.. it is bad for the clubs image globally...

If they don't have a case.. he will be reluctantly sold... asap...

Why in the fuck would someone lock that monumental thread. Now we have to start from the scratch to get to 100 pages.....but we will get there.

Re: The Suarez/Evra Racism Row (continued)

This was an excellent post by KopKing before Fascistio (only kidding Fabs) locked the other thread. It sums up where I'm at:

Posters should exchange views and opinions without getting angry or personal, irrespective of how emotive the topic is. The fact of the matter is Luis shouldn't have said what he said. In mitigation, he comes from a culture where the words used aren't hate words and it isn't apparent that he had the intent behind them as the FA have implied, therefore an 8 match ban is excessive. I find it ironic that the FA has chosen to use a case with two different ethnic minorities to make their 'stand'. When emotions subside, and logic prevails people will see this case for the mockery it is.

Uruguay captain Diego Lugano backs Luis Suarez after racism ban

Page last updated at 16:56 GMT, Wednesday, 21 December 2011

Uruguay captain Diego Lugano has backed national team-mate Luis Suarez after his Football Association punishment for racially abusing Patrice Evra.

Liverpool striker Suarez was banned for eight games and fined £40,000 after an incident with Manchester United defender Evra at Anfield on 15 October.

"I can't believe it. They're making a big mistake," Lugano said.

"Luis is a victim. I can't understand how a player like Evra can do this. He is breaking the codes of football."

There must have been a temptation to throw the book at Suarez and send a strong anti-racist message to the world. From a South American perspective, the length of the ban might be taken to indicate that this is what the disciplinary board has done

Suarez, who denied the allegations, has 14 days to appeal against the decision after a six-day FA hearing found he used "insulting words", which included a reference to Evra's colour.

"We all know what kind of person Luis is and the values he has," added Paris St Germain defender Lugano on his personal website.

"It's obvious that in England there's a racism problem they're trying to eradicate. That's good but this sentence has no solid arguments."

Suarez, who has won 54 caps for his country, enjoyed success with Uruguay in the summer, scoring in the final as they won the 2011 Copa America.

The Uruguayan Embassy has declined to comment on Suarez's punishment and said they wanted "no involvement" in what they described as a "private matter".

Liverpool released a statement on Tuesday backing Suarez and said they would provide "whatever support he now needs to clear his name".

In November, Brighton manager and former Uruguay international Gus Poyet came out in support of his fellow countryman, saying Suarez was "100% not a racist".

Poyet told talkSPORT: "England needs to understand how the rest of the world lives. If we have that understanding, easy."

Suarez wrote on Twitter: "Today is a very difficult and painful day for me and my family. Thanks for all the support."

I was going to copy and paste the same thing.

He's technically guilty (i feel like i need to put IMO here)and had to be found so, but the punishment is excessive.

Re: The Suarez/Evra Racism Row (continued)

While the Spanish squad made history in the first World Cup of football on the African continent in 2010, at the same time, a junior championship was played where three of its participants had the great opportunity of meeting their football idols. Luis Suarez was one of the players who met the kids. This is a short extract from a documentary that was made about the tournament entitled 'From The Streets To The Fields'.

Re: The Suarez/Evra Racism Row (continued)

On Suarez:
The chairman of anti-racism group Kick It Out, Lord Ouseley, said: "The FA has shown leadership and intent through what has clearly been a difficult and complex complaint to deal with, and invested time and expertise to ensure this outcome. It has demonstrated that it will not stand for discrimination, something organisations such as Fifa and Uefa should take heed of." But he added: "This charge is not saying Luis Suarez is a racist. It's saying, on this occasion, he used racist language. It doesn't make him a bad guy - he needs to learn what is acceptable."

On Terry:
Lord Ousely, chairman of the charity Kick it Out which campaigns against all forms of discrimination in football, said it was a "very sad day for football" and added that he was "surprised" at the CPS decision. He said: "From my point of view, yes, it would be very good if we could have moved ahead and not have to go through this."

It really is what he is saying, quite incredible. What delicious irony that the chairman of an anti-racism campaign displays such blatant pro-English bigotry.
