The Suarez/Evra Racism Row
Yeah I made up my mind about racism a long time ago.
Negrito is not viewed as a racist term in Latin cultures, in fact it's used as a term of endearment. However if you think any word with the term black in it is racist then that's your prerogative.

calling someone a black c@nt is not racist.

calling someone the n word is , simples

Hmmm. I'd have to disagree.

Yikes

I have to agree with Anita, the defences of Luis are laughable at best. (Luis being endearing to Evra during a game in which they're constantly at each other)

He's been stupid and is probably going to be punished for it.

I blame myself really, I don't know why I even bothered with this thread.

And 'simples' sounds about right for you.

For once, I needn't add anything.

Well if he didn't consider Negrito to be racist, indeed, if he calls white people negrito (as he almost certainly does) then I don't see how this is a laughable defence.

I think there is a hell of a lot of bollocks being talked in this thread, with some people unbelievably blinkered to cultural difference. Unfortunately, I expect the panel to be just as blinkered.

A guilty verdict is meaningless. He was guilty the moment they stated the charge was

abusive and/or insulting words and/or behavior contrary to FA rules", including "a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Patrice Evra

So abusive or insulting or behavior contrary to the rules. Note the word "or". They have three shots at that first part. Not even OJ could avoid all three. He's fucked on that. Then, "including a reference to ethnicity OR colour OR race". Again three shots. It is irrelevant that negrito is not a racial slur in south america, it is a reference to at least one of those three things. And that is all the charge stipulates.... that he referred to it. It doesn't even have to be a slur, the fact he referred to it at all during the incident makes him guilty of that charge. Again he's fucked, even I would conclude he was guilty.

This is the cunt way internal disciplinary hearings work in this country. The charges are worded so fucking vacuously, even Ghandi would be guilty of something. What he needed was dantes working for him, hacking into everyones emails and controlling them like puppets in his own little game.

So this below is not true then Rosco?

"Negrito is not viewed as a racist term in Latin cultures, in fact it's used as a term of endearment."

I don't know, I'm not an expert. And it's not confirmed that Negrito was the word used.

I do know that Suarez and Evra aren't the best of mates and that Suarez admitted to saying whatever it was that wound Evra up.

What's laughable about the debate around what a word means in a different culture ? No-one is saying Suarez was being best pals with Evra but using 'negrita' (which is the only term I've heard was used) is akin to him being called no more than a fucking pussy. Then again, you must be loving all this given your immense enjoyment of anything negative to do with the club.

I hope you don't ever plan on being a defence lawyer Rosco. Because, no offence, you'd be fucking shite.

Now it's an insult.

I'm confused.

It's interesting to note that the word "Negrito" describes short in stature, dimunutive dark skinned people yet the posters in this thread expressing their disgust for Liverpool's number seven have concluded that our player can only have been racially abusing the 5'8" Frenchman.

As long as Luis Suarez wears the Liverbird on his chest and continues to play his heart out for Liverpool then he'll always have my full support.

If Suarez is deemed a racist and if kenny stands besides him, then is kenny a racist by association. Shall we wait for more info before you start saying there is no defense to what Suarez said etc.....

That isn't what the issue that the FA are looking into, see monsiuerdantes post above

I don't believe Kenny would stand by Suarez if all the evidence was against him and he was found guilty.

We shall see, there's no point in assuming.

I have no doubt in my mind that Suarez was abusing Evra. I don't really mind that.

He's left it open to interpretation as to whether or not someone sees it as racist or not. That's why I think he's been stupid.

Negrita is a feminine noun Ross. They have masculine and feminine words in most non-English Latin originated languages. As a simple example, negrito may be equivalent to calling someone 'mate' and negrita thus would translate to something like 'love' or 'pet'. So the insult is thus he's saying Evra is acting like a woman. If that's all it is then wow ban him for life, cast him out and let all of us wipe him from our memory. How fucking dare he.

It's not confusing. It can be used in both contexts. Suarez most likely was using it as an insult rather than in friendship. But in neither context is it used to be racist. However when you compare it to what he is charged with....
1. Did he insult Evra? Of course.
2. Did he make reference to Evra's race? Of course.

So even though he has not been racist towards Evra (i.e. 1 and 2 are not the same thing, he did them separately), he will nevertheless be found guilty, because he has been charged with each thing separately. The FA are basically being disingenuous cunts, or at best bottling out. They should have charged him with 1 and 2 as a single offense. But by decomposing it, they are effectively coping out. Of course nobody will see it in that way and they'll succeed in creating the impression they have punished a racist. Really they are just cunts.
