The Suarez/Evra Racism Row

Regarding the handball, Solskjær traced a newcastle player who got free and when he couldnt catch him he forlede him deliberate got his red card and it proved to win them the league.

People cheat every game. "Taking a yellow for the team" when someone is counter attacking. It's cheating, and should be a red.

Handballs are no different in my opinion. Cheating is cheating. Ghana should have won but lost their heads. That's their problem.

Luis Suarez's fight to prove he isn’t a racist will be heard by the FA in the next two weeks.

Liverpool are still waiting for an exact date for the Uruguayan striker’s disciplinary hearing
following Patrice Evra’s allegation that Suarez racially abused him when Manchester United played at Anfield in October.

Suarez was charged with “using abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour” after a month-long investigation by the FA. He clashed with Evra a number of times during the 1-1 draw, but strenuously denies making any racist slur.

Suarez will claim that the row blew up over his use of the South American colloquialism “negrito” and that the word has no racist overtones.

It is expected he will learn his fate before Christmas.

I really hope they use they example of Cuntarito saying it.

The FA won't know their arse from their elbow if they see that a Man Utd player has said it too.

?

??

Chicarito called someone "negrito" on a blog or something, I think it's a few pages back in this thread.

The FA won't know what to do if they see someone from Man Utd saying the same word.

Seriously, if anyone has the relevant e-mail address it would be worth forwarding that to the club just in case no-one there has noticed it before.

Yeah I was thinking this. How would we go about this? I haven't got a clue. But someone should definitely do it.

Who can do it?

I have a twitter account but can't figure out how to say fuck all, because its not set up right :-[

When someones got the ball rolling report it here guys ;D

I don't have Twitter. Seriously, though, this could be really helpful, somebody should do it.

It is all over every other web site out there and there even has been an article on the Liverpool.TV forum so I really doubt if this hasn't been noticed by the powers that be at our club.

Besides, I think the quotes from Hernandez are quite old, probably when he was still playing in Mexico, and the FA will probably put the context on it that it may be acceptable to use the word in Latin/South America (as Hernandez did) but not in the UK.

But it proves that it's a colloquial term which is not meant with any racist connotations.

If the saintly Man Utd players say it then....

I'd still love to know what evidence the FA have to be able to charge him.

[/quote] but fergie said........................

They're going to have to be satisfied that Suarez - who hasn't been here a year yet and whose English isn't great - was aware that the word "negrito" (one of which most English people probably weren't even aware before this blew up) would not be regarded as acceptable here before they can justify finding him guilty. I'd really like to see how they could argue that.

.....and, we're off:

Luis Suárez's disciplinary hearing for allegedly racially abusing Patrice Evra has begun in secrecy, the Guardian can reveal.

The case is expected to last two days, with Suárez and Evra both giving evidence to determine the chain of events that has led to the Liverpool striker facing a long ban if he is found guilty.

Evra claims that Suárez used a racist word "at least ten times" during Manchester United's 1-1 draw at Anfield on 15 October. Suárez denies the allegations and has been given Liverpool's full backing as he tries to overturn a case that threatens to have huge ramifications for the club's season.

The hearing centres on a disputed version of what was said between the two players. Suárez has admitted words were exchanged but the Uruguayan's defence is understood to focus on the nuances of the Spanish language and cultural differences, arguing that what he said would not be considered offensive for someone of his background in South America.

The complexities of the case have led the FA to look closely at the semantics issue and explain why the case is expected to take longer than usual.

So after both of his cases have been heard, how many games do you think he'll be missing?

I'm guessing he'll be cleared of the racist claims, but will get a 2-3 game ban for sticking his fingers up at the Fulham fans.

I don't want to agree because usually when I want something to happen the opposite does. However I can see it not being very many.

Actually i'm going to go for 2 games, reduced because of the semantic issues, however a ban because it was still offensive and because of the finger incident.

It's a joke though, zero games missed and a statement from Evra accepting it was a misunderstanding/mistranslation and that he's happy with the outcome is the only fair result.

Different jurisdiction I know, but a Hibernian player got a one match ban yesterday for offensive gestures to Rangers fans.

Strange, is it not, that Evra is giving evidence? I thought Luis was charged based on the evidence he already gave. Sounds more like a straight one man's word against the other to me.

He'd still have to give evidence at the hearing itself, if only to give Luis' lawyers a chance to cross-examine him.

Hopefully he'll be asked to explain his interview with French TV right after the game, when he apparently said it was no big deal to him. If there's any justice, questions will then be asked about what part that evil old cnut of a manager of his played in his decision to bring a complaint after all.
