*Opens mouth*

*Stares*

Ha, I hope not.

Either way, I now know about a guy called Eric who got two red cards consecutively in Canada - which is an achievement apparently.

*makes notes*

This is why I always trust you man!

This is all detracting from the point that I was hoping someone would garner from my little story.

Which blows, as I would like to know what it was.

He's bang on though, isn't he?
[/quote].

Why? It was just brave JTs way of expressing himself

There are lots of posts in this thread regarding the matter, and I have to say that I support Suarez in his interpretation - that in his native language and where he comes from Uruguay it is used as an affectionate term and not intended to be insulting or racist. It is also worth remembering that Uruguay have a rich history of using their black players which they did from the very early days in their footballing history, they are more mature than the Brazilians in that area who use to tell their black players to use some powder to make themselves look white in those days. I think the FA have to be very careful how they handle this - if they decide to fine him and give him a ban as I don't think any racist intent was there.

Gus Poyet accuses Patrice Evra of 'crying like a baby' in racism case

Patrice Evra, the Manchester United defender at the centre of the Luis Suárez racism case, has been accused of overreacting and "crying like a baby" in an astonishing attack by Gus Poyet, a friend of the Liverpool striker.

Poyet's condemnation flies in the face of the Kick It Out campaign's instruction for footballers to report anything they consider to be racial slurs. But the Brighton manager believes Suárez has been harshly treated and his dismay about his fellow Uruguayan being charged by the Football Association manifested itself in an outburst about the behaviour of the alleged victim.

"I believe Luis Suárez, it's simple," Poyet said. "I played football for seven years in Spain and was called everything because I was from South America, and I never went out crying like a baby, like Patrice Evra, saying that someone had said something to me."

Poyet, who has befriended Suárez since the striker moved to Liverpool from Ajax in January, is not convinced the FA has enough evidence to warrant a charge of using racial insults. Suárez has denied the allegations and will plead not guilty.

"I'm surprised, in a really sad way, that he has been charged," Poyet said. "Really sad. I think it's worse to charge someone because you trust one person when you have no proof.

"I'm really sad about this charge as it's going to become too easy. I can make a complaint about any opposition manager and if I take it as far as I can he's going to get charged. Why are we going to take one person's word over another? It's too risky."

Those comments will go down badly at Old Trafford and may provoke the United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, into making a response when he holds his weekly press briefing on Friday. Evra, who alleges he was called a variation of the N-word "at least 10 times", has decided not to comment until the case is heard.

Poyet, whose playing career includes spells at Real Zaragoza, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, appeared to be saying Evra should never have made a complaint. However, he contradicted that view when asked about the Fifa president Sepp Blatter's comments that victims of racial slurs should shake hands with their abusers at the end of matches and not take the matter further. "I respect him as Fifa president but I don't listen to him when he talks about football," he said.

Gus Poyet. From Uruguay.

Y'know the way we don't take KHL seriously when he starts rubbing his clit over Agger? Well, that's the same.

Oh I totally know it's bias. Couldn't give a fuck though. It's always nice to hear someone not from Liverpool support our players

Just to be a bit pedantic - Poyet didn't contradict himself by saying that. He just said he didn't listen to Blatter. He offered no opinion as to whether Blatter was right or not in that particular instance.

I believe Suarez will just get a slap on the wrist for this.

He is going to cry cultural differances, and have some of the best lawyers around backing his case. What he has alleged to have said is accepted and normal every day bantering from where he comes from and is not or seen as racial abuse. Rough translation is 'a little black girl', 'sweetheart' basically he was calling evra a 'pussy' or milder version if you like a 'cissy'.

my own personal view is anyone who is clueless to believe that racism on the pitch can be solved by a handshake after the game should not hold a position of influence

and should probably be given a good kicking as well

When someone gets to the position that Bladder is in now they're generally clueless to what goes on in the real world. The guy has obviously never experienced anything like that in any shape or form.

"If" he's proven to be guilty, well he fully deserves to get banned.

If he does miss a few games though I'd have no problems supporting him when he returns tbh.

Same here.

Judge people on their actions rather than their words.

Yup... I'd agree with that..

However how far does racism go though ?.. calling someone a Manc twat, scouse bastered is also arguably racism, but its often used as banter on a day to day basis, that could be seen to dealt with by a handshake at the end of game. However abusing someone because of the colour of their skin is a differant matter altogether.

The calls for Blatter to resign are a total waste of time. Blatter plays the FIFA organisation like a musical instrument. He is untouchable. He will not go until he is carried away in a box.

Did he actually get a black South African politician to read out his statement for him ?

I think that legally, all white people are classified as the same race, so "Fat Spanish Waiter" is legal. 🙂
