The Suarez/Evra Racism Row

[quote author=Hansern link=topic=47188.msg1427187#msg1427187 date=1321527963]
If the FA talk to the same experts the Telegraph has, then they wont have much of a case. Will be interesting to see if they do that. If not, and they fuck Suarez off with a guilty verdict you'd think he has an extremely good case for the civil courts.

What are you referring to in regards to the telegraph?

I read about 3 posts of deluded nonsense and it was all I could stomach. Came straight off, gave my little girl a hug and made her go and put her home kit on.

no one is vilifying suarez (innocent until proven guilty) but I think if he is found guilty a lot people (and I have to include myself) will turn on him pretty quickly, but until verdict has passed who has got on suarez's back or claimed he was guilty? so what's with the pitchfork/mob talk?

We all know what he said. It's not like any new evidence is going to come out in court. Why let the FA dictate how you feel about the words he used?

Personally I'm only concerned about how this affects us on the pitch. Lose Suarez and we're a bit screwed.

Im sorry Squiggles but I actually dont know what he said. Will you tell me, because i've been asking since the interview in Uruguay.

Following a meeting of all 20 Premier League Clubs the League has today issued the following statement:

"The English game has been at the forefront of tackling racist behaviour and other forms of discrimination.

"Everybody in the game in England understands any form of racism is totally unacceptable.

"There are still issues, as there are in society, so with our partners, Kick It Out, the PFA and The FA, we must remain committed and vigilant to maintaining the standards we have set and confronting any incidents that occur.

"There is no place for discrimination in football and we will continue to strive to eliminate it."

As far as I can see noone knows what he said. I don't think either Suarez or Evra has said so.

Evra has suggested it offended him and that it was said a lot of times. Suarez has said that it is something United players call Evra all the time. That's it basically.

Sucks to be you, doesn't it ?

Oh, crazy, edgy, YOU !

"If" he's proven to be guilty, well he fully deserves to get banned.

If he does miss a few games though I'd have no problems supporting him when he returns tbh.

Genuine question. If he's found guilty he'll get some form of ban, but ultimately, will it make ANY difference? Away fans will shout abuse at him. He might lose some home support But anything of real consequence?

I've read that Suarez admitted to using the 'Negrito' word. If that's the case then people who wish to judge him can do so already, without having to wait for the FA's judgement. I doubt they'll be basing their judgement on what's already available to us.

In Spain, Mexico and almost all of Latin-America, negro (note that ethnonyms, names of nationalities, etc. are generally not capitalized in Romance languages) means "black person" in colloquial situations, but it can be considered to be derogatory in other situations (as in English, "black" is often used to mean irregular or undesirable, as in "black market/mercado negro&quot😉. However, in Spanish-speaking countries such as Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay where there are few people of African origin and appearance, negro (negra for females) is commonly used to refer to partners, close friends or people in general independent of skin color. In Venezuela the word negro is similarly used, despite its large African descent population.

It is similar to the use of the word "nigga" in urban communities in the United States. For example, one might say to a friend, "Negro ¿Como andas? (literally "Hey, black one, how are you doing?&quot😉. In this case, the diminutive negrito is used, as a term of endearment meaning "pal", "buddy" or "friend". Negrito has come to be used to refer to a person of any ethnicity or color, and also can have a sentimental or romantic connotation similar to "sweetheart," or "dear" in English (in the Philippines, negrito was used for a local dark-skinned short person, living in the Negros islands among other places).

Hopefully he just gets a slap on the wrist, but after opening his mouth (again), I can't help but fear the worst.

I know what you mean, and you're right to make the point, but if Suarez rocks up with Grabiner or some other highly-priced QC as the papers are suggesting today, the FA are going to have to get their procedure 100% watertight or face the possibility of costly court action.

I think that guardian article just used the word "Negrito" as an example of a word with different meanings that could have been used.

Then everyone rushed to the conclusion that that was the word he used ( ten times).

If they have charged Luis Suarez, then its inevitable that John Terry, also has to be charged. This could be precedent setting for the game!

THERE WE HAVE IT, PEOPLE.
THE PROPHET HATH SPOKEN

I remember watching my dad play professionally in the early eighties. My sisters and I would sit next to the dugout.

There were a couple of nasty fuckers in rival teams who would wind my dad up by telling him how they were going to slit my throat and rape my sisters after the match.

He got sent off in two consecutive games against one of these teams - once for deliberately breaking a guys leg after he made comments about my sisters.

The coach asked us to stop attending games after that streak.
